Just saw that secondact (clicked on a banner - I am a sucker) is selling the Jamo AVR-793 bundled with the DVD-593 for $499. I don't know much about Jamo's electronics, but their rep is pretty solid in the speaker world, and the stats look good. This seems to be an unreal deal.

Anybody got any experience?

Saw a review from "home cinema choice" and they liked the unit. It may not be the most up-to-date piece, but for the price, it looks like a good deal. Remember that the power ratings are at 6 ohms so with most 8-ohm speakers, the power should be significantly lower. Also, the site advertises the receivers ability to power 4ohm speakers but says nothing about 2. In other words, for real world power, it should be just fine. However, I'm sure it wouldn't compare with some realy hefty amps for example NAD.

I guess that all depends. What NAD receiver and dvd player can you buy for $500? I am not sure there is a $400 receiver and $100 dvd you can buy that looks better on paper. Now how it sounds in real life is different. If I was getting started and only had $500, I would certainly think seriously about this combo.
