For Klipsch KS-525 THX Ultra2 Loudspeakers:

The Klipsch THX Ultra2 set of speakers, from reviews, sound like an amazing set of speakers.

Well above what I would start out with for a budget, they tempt.

I ran across an offer on ebay for this one pair of that set for $600, sealed box new, half the MSRP, which is apparently little discounted normally.

Question: can I use this pair of speakers much in a 2.1 setup, until if and when I get around to getting more of the set?

And is this the great deal it seems to be (subject to my confirming it's legit - while the seller has 55 feedbacks, it's a bit squirrely, I got a 'second chance' offer when the auction winner who bid $610 backed out, according to an e-mail from the seller, but the mail came directly rather than through ebay; and when I'd asked about picking up in the listed location of northern CA, he said no, delivery only from the warehouse in southern CA...)

Fishy to me too!!

I've seen many sellers refuse to ship for one reason or another but have not seen anybody refuse a pick up.....is it covered by the PayPal guarantee of up to $1000?? I have had success in resolving sour deals with PayPal, but have not spent over $200 or so ever on eBay.

fishy

Ya, I smelled a little fish too and am working on getting comfortable with the deal. What I needed help on now was confirming whether these speakers are useful to hook up just to an a/v receiver as stereo for music and audio purposes, and if this approach makes sense, if the deal is legit.

I indicated I'd try to confirm if I'm interested later tonight.

There was another ebay where a different seller wants to sell all the speakers, MSP $10,750, for $900, if I send a western union to Eastern Europe:)

Now, that one, there's not doubt.:) I sent him a note about how it's dad he has to hide from his parents that he's become a thief.

fishier

since there was some interest in the legitimacy of the deal, here's the latest e-mail from the seller.

I think I might insist that he re-list the item through ebay with a buy it now price, which is was ebay recommended for another auction.

It's pretty suspicious, but somewhat offset by about 4 months of history with about 55 positive feedbacks.

If I'm protected by ebay, then it might be worth trying.

Hello,
At this time I am located in Europe. The unit is located in United States, but I will get somebody to ship it to you so that you may receive the unit in less than 48 hours... no problems...The price for the unit is US $600.00. The ex winner had some problems and couldn't handle the situation (he told me something about his daughter being sick). The deal will go strictly according to eBay's rules and policy so that we will be 100% protected against description error and fraud. I never make any deal outside eBay. To start the official transaction, please send me the following info:
Your eBay user id: ...
Your eBay email address: ...
First Name: ...
Last name: ...
Address: ...
City: ...
State: ...
Zip: ...
Country: ...
I will contact eBay as soon as I receive the info. In shortly you will receive an invoice from eBay. You must read carefully the invoice and there you will have all instructions about payment and shipping.
I'll handle the shipping, so this will be free of charge for you + I am willing to deduct you with the fee for handling the payment procedure.
Also, a refund policy will be included if you are not satisfied with the unit. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank You!
PS: Really interested in selling...

The whole "I'm in Europe but I'll have someone mail it too you" screams scam to me. Even if he does re-list it on ebay doesn't give you 100% buyers protection.

Please do not buy this article.
Better wait for a chance to buy it from a serious, more reliable seller in your home country.

I do live in Europe and people overhere ( hardly ) do not buy from foreign private Ebay sellers too. Too difficult in case of troubles......Only a fool buys from foreign private Ebayers.
It is possible you will have to contact your lawyer and start all legal stuff for 600 bucks.
By the time you have found the seller and you have the speakers at home you will probably spend 6000 bucks on legal costs ( lawyer ) for that amount you can buy nice things and probably a complete Klipsch set !!
Has nothing to do with Europeans but generally do not buy in such cases at all. If you buy in such cases you deserve a good punch under your ba..s

And if a salesman does not offer you to have a look at it or to pick it up yourself at his place then WAKE UP MY FRIEND.

If he is situated in Europe then why would he sell to the US ?
These speakers are also highly wanted in Europe. He could sell them for that amount without any problem. Why making such a fuzz if I would like to sell them then I would definately choose for the easiest sollution and sell within my own country !!
Do you have the link to his article for me ?

(any fool can arrange that, create an account and all is yours )

(free shipping in 2 days that means by plane or does he think there is a boat that does it in 2 days, ( jet boat  ) wake up, and without any extra costs, how does he wanna do that. Is the pilot his friend too. Shipping stuff from Europe to the US is not cheap ) Tomorrow he will probably say please remit money by Western Union !!

Also, a refund policy will be included if you are not satisfied with the unit. Looking forward to hearing from you. ( what a cheater )
Thank You! ( FU>K YOU )
PS: Really interested in selling... ( he thinks he found a victim )

It's in the US - he says

The listing on ebay said the unit location is in Burlingame (northern CA). When I asked about pickup he said it's in southern CA.

There's still plenty fishy, though, and I need to see if I'm protected much. The thing is, if he hadn't told me he's in Europe, I wouldn't have that info; the auction looked normal in every other way than the fact I was only the second highest bidder. He actually had three components from this speaker set up for auction, and I haven't seen any negative feedback from the winners of the other two...

So, no one can say if this pair of speakers is sensible for use as stereo and for video/tv and putting buying the rest of the setup until possibly later?:)

FYI - here's a link to the feedback from buyers on him, saying things like that the speakers arrived from the west coast as described.

Scam

I'm convinced the second offer was a scam.

The original sale - which sold them for the winning $610 bid over my $600 bid (darn), appears legit.

I think someone then took my name from the bid history, cooked up the fraud story, and sent the e-mail.

I'd report them but all I have is an e-mail address, so it's pointless.

It is a scam...don't waste your time. I had similar email from these people, with similar reasons. Lol...:D . I exchanged emails with them only to see how far they'd go to get people.

ebay

Yes, it's sad to see people try to steal.

eBay itself is a bit frustrating, because you seem to really need to be there in the last minute of the auction, and/or using a special software tool.

An item will sit with a bid for a few days, and in the last minute double with a bunch of bids.

So, no one knows if the KS-525 are useful as stereo speakers:) In case another legit pair shows up...

Or evem, am I wrong to think of the Klipsch THX Ultra2 as a sort of super good set of speakers justifying spending a lot more than other options?

There is a review of a THX ultra2 at this site. Not sure these are the same speakers:

It sounds like a fabulous set.
