Good Morning everyone!
We have a woman(Elizabeth)that has lived with us for almost 6 years now. She is an aide that takes care of my mother-who has been in a vegitated state for about 11 years now. Elizabeth is from Ghana, Africa, and she is pretty wet behind the ears when it comes to the wonderful world of A/V.(Boy do I feel important all of sudden!:D)
We live in Orange County, NY and we had to move down to Florida(Ft.Lauderdale area)for a couple of years back in 01' because we sold our house up here and the fact that I was on Dialysis at the time made it a better place for me to live too at that time too. But we came back 2 years later, and I also had a Kidney transplant almost a year after that. Boy did I miss it up here!
Elizabeth even came down to Florida with us. My point? This woman takes care of my mom(Caroline)like she is her mother too. We made her an Honary member of our big Italian family about 4 years ago.(LOL) I still don't think she's quite used to the yelling and screaming that we call LOVE.
While down in Florida, my dreams of a dedicated HT room, were pot on hold indefinitely. Also, we were living in an apartment house-style condo community and we were on the 2nd floor. Due to the fact that i am lifetime disability,(end stage renal kidney failure)my income has been fixed for some time now and it was then too. No one wanted to let me buy anything on credit at that time, EXCEPT BOSE!! And besides, I was on the 2nd fllor with nothing but senior citizens below me, above me, to the, and to the right of me too. So BOSE was a decent(at best) option for me at the time. I got one of their 3-2-1 systems, which came with the Main unit(Its an am/fm radio,DVD player, and a main imput type of receiver for a cable box and 2 other components if I wished-All in one), and it also came with those wider type of cibe speakers(silver color), and the Bass module. (basically a 2.1 sound system. Well I didn't know how much of a music fan Elizabeth was, and she loves that Bose system of mine.
I have tried to explain to her, time and time again, that BOSE is by no means, anywhere near the the category of the BEST you can get. She still insists at times that she must get herself the same system. I told her That BOSE is all MARKETING and for the money, there is so much BETTER to be had. Plus, when I told her that I paid $1200 for my Bose system(over a 12 month period) she nearly had a stroke. Like I said, she is very wet behind the ears when it comes to AV.
So here is my request to you all: Can anyone(and everyone that is in the "Know")please suggest a few different brands of systems that offer the same simple set-up (2.1)that my highly overpriced BOSE system does. Elizabeth does so much for my mother and the rest of us, that I think this is the very least I can do for her.
Thank you all in advance! :)

Good for you! My family is a bunch of loud polacks, but hey, it's all good.
My bedroom system consists of the very well thought of Pioneer A35R integrated amp. I use a Pioneer DVD player. I have two "white van" audiophile bookshelves that are the chinese version of the BW 805s. Those are hooked up and through an NHT subwoofer system.
Yes, it's a passive sub, with its own amp........which isn't totally simple......everything but the speakers was bought used.......for under $700. And it sounds awesome.
This integrated doesn't have a sub out, which would make life simpler. Integrateds are so much simpler to use than av receivers. You could also get a stereo receiver which will give you a radio, too. And running the bookshelves through the subwoofers termianls is a good way to run 2.1, imho.
I paid $600 delivered for the 32" panny lcd. So my system is $1300. You could save money on the speakers, for which I paid $300.
Integrated-$100 used
DVD- $50 used
Sub-------$200 used
Speaks. --$300 new
You didn't say what your budget was....
Here is a picture of my system...........the cabinet below the integrated houses the sub amp and a multi disc cd player.

Loud Pollacks Huh? My family could definitely give your's a run for their money in the NOISE department.(depending on which holiday it is!) Nice little set you have there. Thanks for the pic too!
Her budget is ALAP! (As low as possible. LOL :D) She wants something exactly like my upstairs BOSE system, that I originally posted about.(I forgot to mention that I now have a dedicated HT room. FINALLY!! :))
Please keep the suggestions coming everyone.
Thanks! Joe B.

Give her your Bose system. That way she gets what she wants and you get to upgrade. I know the Bose was expensive but it sounds like she is worth it.

I'm not trying to guilt you into anything either. It's just what I would do.

I dont know of another silmiler system. I've never reserched it. If I come up with something I let you know.

It just so happens that the Bose system is used upstairs in the main living room. And that is where my grandmother(90 years old), my mother, my nieces and nephews, and Elizabeth, watch any and all of their TV and DVD movies.
My dedicated HT, is in the basement, and no one but me, my sister, some cousins, and sometimes my father, ever goes down there. My Mom can't(wheelchair bound). Grandma can't (90 years old and stubborn too! LOL). And Elizabeth can't go down there either because her job is to care for my mother.
Like I said, she wants something as close to my Bose system as possible, for her apartment(that she only goes home to, once every other month or so). And she wants it as inexspensive as possible. I really hope that there is something comparable out there, that won't cost as much.
Thanks again all! :)

She is liking the Panasonic system.(especially the price! :))

Thanks!! Joe B.
I like the Klipsch system myself.

Hopefully she can go listen to it somewhere or return it if it is not to her liking.

Question, is she going to use this just for music, or video as well? Is she only goes to her small apartment occasionally, does she really need a sub?

Get an Onkyo HTIB setup. not bad for the $.

but you should seriously give her your Bose and get a real system.

She just moved into a new apartment, that she will be sharing with another friend. And, since she still only plans on going there once a month at the most, I asked her the same thing about really needing a sub or not. She insists that she loves the "boom" that my living room system makes, and she wants that too.(typical woman... just kidding)
And she plans to use it for movies and music. She also asked if me or my sister would come to her apartment and hook up her cable to it too at some point. (Yes I turned my sister into a decent AV installer too! Actually, I had to force her into the hobby )

Thanks! Joe B.

Naaaaah, the Bose system stays upstairs for the family members, the kids(nieces nephews), and any other AV Rookies who come to the house.
My one and only(for now:D)serious system, is in my basement HT room. So whenever we have movie night, or one of my friends or cousins with the AV bug comes over for a visit, we make our way down to Uncle Joes' Home Theater. (My neices and nephews call me "Uncle Joes).
Thanks for the suggestions! Joe B.
