Some questions on new purchased Yamaha RX-V663 receiver

Just bought this receiver online this morning but have been studying the downloaded manual for a few days. My setup will be;
Panasonic plasma TH-42PX60U
Panasonic DVD recorder DMR-ES40V
Direct TV HD receiver

I will use HDMI from Direct receiver to the RX-V663, HDMI from there to the TV. The DVD hookup will be by component+optical to the RX-V663. The front speakers will be Sansui SP-200.

Questions are;
1. After the laughter quiets down because I am going to use old and probably outdated speakers, they are rated at 40 Watts, the RX-V663 has up to 95 Watts per channel, if the sound is turned up too loud (possible by my grand-boys) is there a chance that they just might die by blowing or even explode? (I bought these furniture-like speakers while on R&R in Hong Kong a long time ago and I like them).

2. I don’t understand all I know about HDMI so it isn’t clear, to watch a DVD movie on the player with component-optical to the V663 will the HDMI pass the signal from receiver to the TV? Or will there have to be a connection from DVD player to TV? Reading the manual it appears that the signal will be passed by the HDMI cable but a reviewer said it wouldn’t.

Your speakers should be fine.

You understand the wiring correctly.

The reviewer is an idiot.

CAVU....thanks for your input...

Another question would be when recording with my setup will the HDMI cable receive the signal from satellite and pass that signal to the DVD recorder? In other words will that cable both receive and send, like recording a TCM movie while watching same?
