Some questions about the Logitech Z-5500 Digital speakers

Hi,

I am thinking about buying the Logitech Z-5500 Digital speakers. I am going to be using them for watching movies and playing on my xbox. I am also thinking about using them in small party. The room is about 65 feet long and 30 feet wide. Do you think this system would be enough for a room of that size? I'll be the dj.

Thanks

Welcome and there is no such thing as "digital"speakers. That is a bogus selling tactic used to entice unknowing buyers. What is your budget for speakers? Do you already have an receiver or will you be needing that as well? The room is huge so you may want to look at some bigger systems.

Hi,

Thanks for your message. I am sorry if I am very ignorant about this. There are going to be about 50 people in that big room. I am planning of using my computer. That's about all what I know.

If you could be so kind to give me some recommendations about a proper equipment, I'll be very grateful. I have about 400 dollars to spend. I don't have a receiver. Do I need it even if I am will using the computer as my source of audio.

I am so sorry for my ignorance. I am trying to learn:eek:

I hate to say it, but having $400 to spend on an entire sound system powerul enough to fill a 65' x 30' room is... next to impossible :)

I used to have the Z-5500s, and while I loved them for the price at the time, there's no way it could have sounded any good in anything bigger than my bedroom, which is about 15' x 12' (and many people here would argue they don't sound any good even in that). You're either going to have to do something about your budget, or very much scale back your expectations as to the kind of sound you'll be able to produce.

Agreed, that is a HUGE room. You are going to need pro speakers.

For movies and Xbox, they might not be so bad because you would probably be sitting fairly close to them. I've heard good things about those speakers.

However, like the others have said, they likely won't cut it for a party in a room that size (with 50 people chatting) unless you aren't looking to fill the whole room with music. If you want a small dance area with music, while the other end of the room can hear it but not really loud, then maybe.

I have quite a bit of experience with these speakers. At about 80% max volume, they can really get a 9' x 14x room pumpin. Although I don't recommend using them at max volume as slight distortion starts to set in on certain songs, when I turned it up to 100% it was able to fill my 18' x 20' room with moderately loud music.

If what your after is a soft background noise amongst the chatter they may work for that. Or like Adam said, you could section off a smaller area and use them that way, maybe you the other area for food/chatting/ect.

That being said, they should be great for watching movies/playing xbox.

Thanks a lot for your answers!

Could you please recommend to me suitable system for my computer for that room? Are there speakers for computer that would be good enough for that room?

Ummm, well for $400 i'm not aware of any speakers that will get that room pumpin.

A couple JTR Triple 12HT would work with a couple Growlers for Subs, but thats gona run you over $5,000. There are people on this forum much more knowledgeable than my self that may have some ideas.

You don't need to make a distinction between computer speakers and other speakers. All speakers will work with your computer as long as you have the right cable that turns 3.5mm jack into RCA. You can find these for $1.

What they call "Computer speakers" are designed with the amp inside them and are generally designed to be used in a near field arrangement. That means you are supposed to sit close.

Your room is huge. You will need a powerful amp and some big speakers. I would start with ebay. At $1000 you aren't going to get quality. You may get loud.

Cerwin Vega speakers are known to be big and loud. You can start there. JBL is another option.
