Hello again everyone. Sorry about the several posts just need different info so wanted to isolate it better. Anyway I have read the center speaker is perhaps the most important in the sound system.

I already have 2 different sets of speaker stha ti never used and would like to use in my setup.

1) First pair is a set of JBL S38 shelf speakers? Are these any good for the mains? And what is the center channell you would reccomend for them? Im looking to spend around $250 So I am hoping I can a nice center speaker for less than that hopefully.

2) The second pair I have is a set of Kenwood JL-707 Floor Speakers. Which ones do you suggest I use(would sound best) and please suggest the best possible center speakers for each.

Oh yea and the reciever is an Onkyo TX-DS484.
Thank you everyone for all of your help.

.....MaxSE, once again, we all hear differently....which ones do YOU think you want as your front mains?.....but I'll say this....I would give the Kenwood floor-standers every shot at sitting up front....if you choose this route, once again, you want a center and rears that sound as close as possible to the Kenwoods......

thanks buddy, Took your advice and hooked up the kenwoods. Didnt like them at all. They sounded very dull to me. So right now it looks like Ill be using the JBL S38 with the ec35. What does everyone think. Will they match? I couldnt find the ec35 to listen to anywhere!

.....MaxSE, if that center is by JBL, I'd go ahead and order it ear-unseen....JBL meant a lot to me in car-stereo, woofers-up......

I have the EC-35 with my JBL S312s (your S38 bigger brothers). Beautiful timbre match. And by the way, I have some 20 year old JBL J350s for surrounds (10", 3-way). ;)

thanks buddy. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Quick question. How do you find the EC-35? Hows is the voice clarity on it? Is it nice and warm? Just want to make sure I dont get tired of listening to it since most of the time it will be the speaker thats playing, and I cant really find it anywhere to listen to it, most places seem to only have the ec-25.

*EDIT* Also do you think that the Onkyo TX-DS484 amp be powerful enough to drive the s38s and the other speakers and sub?

I got mine online (I live in the boonies), $140 plus shipping. Try to buy it from Harman Audio on eBay (the JBL factory store).

It will sound like a less bassy version of your S38s. No problem driving the JBLs as they are very efficient, 8 ohm speakers.

awesome thanks. But the fact that its less basy is fine right siince the bass is handled by the sub? Also what sucks is that I can turn the volume on the reciever all the way up to the max and it is still not crazy loud. Loud but not like you would expect it to be when going to max volume on the reciever. I'm assuming that because the reciever doesnt have a lot of watts right?
