Some DIY cables I made this weekend

A customer of mine had ordered raw materials for cables with his speaekers, but he wasn't sure what to do when he got the stuff in, so I made up the cables for him and I think they came out pretty well. They consist of a 3 conductor wire inside a rather heavy jacket. What I did was just strip off the sheathing and shield, twist together the positives and negatives, solder those together, crimped on the connectors he had and shrink wrapped everything. They took about 20 min a cable.

Yes, looks great:D How long? What gauge? Did you braid the red and white inside the shrink tube, or just twisting them?

To be honest, I don't know what AWG. There are 3 single conductor wires in there - three red and three black, probably around 16 AWG ea. They aren't exactly "braided, I just took the three, twisted them together. I stripped about 3/8" off each wire (just enough to fit inside the connector's end), twisted each together and soldered them so they would stay together, then slipped the crimp connector on and crimped away. Shrink wrapped from the base of the connector down about 1/2" which allowed it to cover about 1/4" onto the "braid" so that there would still be some flexibility for the ends to move around. Tried them out in my system..... No DVM so I can't measure them, but no audible difference to my ears, though they look nice :) Here's the ends without the resolution dropped.

If they are 16 ga each, then perhaps you have 12ga final. Yes, it looks very good. How long? Is that a one piece of shrink tube, long enough for it? I have only seen 3 ft or 5 ft long ones.

The larger shrink tubing is just to cover the end a little so it looks less ugly :) It only extends about 1 1/2". the cable itself is already jacketed with a heavy ~3/8" PVC jacket.
