Some Clarification Needed!

I recently purchased a 42' Plasma Monitor which lacks the built in tuner. The only reason I bought one without it was because of a deal that was virtually unbeatable. Anyways, my problem is that I now need a device that takes the SDTV signal (from coax/uhf) and then can turn it to a component output for just SDTV as the monitor does not have a direct Coax jack, only DVI/HDMI/Component/Composite and S-Video inputs which makes watching standard def cable TV a bit of a problem (cannot view it at all until I find a tuner). I am not concerned with HDTV as 6 channels are broadcast for free in my area over the air and as a college student I cannot afford with full HD package. It seems every where I look there are HDTV tuners for only Desktop computers and USB ports, and others that look capable of doing the job but have MSRP's of $2,000+ and I would prefer to spend $100 or less. Are there components made that can do what I am asking at a fairly cheap price? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Component video won't do much to help you with SDTV since it is broadcast at 480i. Composite video or s-video is plenty for what you need and if you are just looking for 'basic' cable, then use the standard for basic cable tv reception...

the VCR.

Any VCR will do the job for you perfectly fine.

Likewise, a DVD recorder will also do this for you and likely will have component video outputs that can be connected to your television. In fact, in this day and age I would go with the DVDR over a VCR any day of the week... but VCRs are likely sitting around your home collecting dust somewhere.

Thanks for the help fellas, Martaid, I think that receiver is down the lines of what I may need to get, but BMX makes sense using a VCR and thats cheap! The only thing is I would NEED component to get the 6 free HD channels over the air, which would require something like that HDTV Receiver I believe.
