Thank you in advance for anyone who takes the time to respond to this; I know how annoying these threads can be as they are entirely subjective...
Anyhoo, a good friend of mine has some Monitor Audio Gold series bookshelfs he is using as mains and he asked me what sub he thought would blend well with them. I do not have any personal experience with MA's so I thought I would ask you guys on his behalf. He would like one example to be <$600 and the other to be between $600 and $1000 (in case he gets lucky at the casino one night). In case it's relevant, he is 80% two channel listening and 20% HT.
Thanks again,
Charles

Any good sub will do the trick IMO. I'd suggest the HSU VTF-2 MKII for the under $600 sub. I haven't heard the SVS subs everyone raves about so much but I'm sure they'd do the trick too. Also Vans.com had Mirage omni subs on for $400 that had great specs, and I've heard its sister sub by Energy and was impressed. If those Monitor Audios are filling that room with sufficient sound then either of these subs will do just fine. The biggest concern is getting a sub that can pressurize the room. Dimensions of his listening room would be a great start, and either of you can email SVS or HSU with that info and they'll suggest a great sub for your friend's needs. Tell him good luck ;).
