software for 3d sound on headphones

hi guys ... i am very new in the sound corner ... heard about a freeware software which sounds quite handy and good for mixing 3D sound or kind of fake surroundsound for headphones ... i heard it is made buy some students but unfortunetly i have not more infos about it ... does anyone has a tip for me!?!

I don't know about the freeware you're looking for but I recently purchased a new Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card and it has 3D headphone effects. I am very impressed with them. When playing games the 3D positioning is surprisingly good. When playing music it actually sounds like the music is in front of you instead of inside your head.

... sounds good .... about the soundcard ... but i heard there is a software u can fix simmilar sounds like 3d or surround with normal headphones an cdplayer ... without a special soundcard .... but i might be wrong about that!

sh... i really wonder what this software is called .... heard good things about it ,... ! any other tips!?!?
