have seen and have read a lot of good info on here. So here is what i am trying to decide. I have a safety point system through my work and I am in the market for a new surround sound system. I will show you what they have that I can get or I can buy a system and use the points for other cool stuff they have. I am also wanting to make sure that the speaker choices I make are decent. My living room is 25'x30' and like the idea of the 7.2 dual sub system. I would prefer to use my points but I have not found many reviews on these speakers. If there is any advise that can be given I would appreciate it. The speakers look good on paper and they match my decor, the receivers is another ball game.

RECEIVER

Sony Model No: STRDN1040 it is a a 7.2 system or Yamaha Model No: RX-V773BL it is a 7.1

I have read alot of good stuff about the SONY.....

FRONT SPEAKERS X 2

Yamaha Model No: NS-F150PN

REAR SPEAKERS X 2

Yamaha Model No: NS-F150PN

1 CENTER SPEAKER AND 2 SIDE SPEAKERS

Yamaha Model No: NS-P150PN

Sub?? Undecided and they do not have a stand alone sub. So this will be out of pocket and Would like to keep it under 500.00 for the sub.

Thanks for taking the time to read and look forward to your advise.

I like Audyssey-based receivers myself so would probably go with Denon, but Yamaha would be a close second for me. For speakers, I personally like Aperion, Axiom, Monitor Audio, and PSB, but get out and listen as this is what matters most with regards to sound and where most of your budget should go. As for the sub, your room is very large so you may need to up your budget; dual SVS PB-1000 for $949 shipped is the least amount of sub I would get for that room.

P.S. CrimsonTide huh? Harvard, other?

Yes Crimson tide... Not Harvard... O and I live in Texas.... I know these speakers are low end but this is my first system and I do not want a 10,000.00 home stereo system just something better than a out of the box system. Also hard to pass on free stuff. The budget for the subs was 500.00/sub so the SVS looks like a good option. in the 7 speaker set up would 4 floor speakers, 2 smaller side speakers and a center speaker be the way to go? or book shelves in the rear?

I would go with 4 bookshelves for the surrounds - the Yamaha looks better than
their average entry level stuff.

Personally, I would forget the 7 channel and go with a better 5 channel system (2 subs are a good idea). Most sources are still 5-channel native and by eliminating 2 speakers, you can put that money into better front/left/centers and you can always add the other channels later. Now is a good time to buy as a lot of these places will have good holiday deals. Aperion has some great value-priced speakers and a great return policy if you don't care for them. Definitive Technology also has some good product at affordable price points and they run sales thru Magnolia centers inside Best Buy once in a while.
