You did not mention a price range. If it is just for movies, Yamaha has some very good receivers at most price ranges, with all the latest bells and whistles. I have the RX-Z1 which does great for movies and gives you plenty of flexiblity in set-up and in how you want to hear the movies. A lot of people seem annoyed by the sheer number of DSP choices the Yammies give, but there always seems to be one that fits movies, tv, X-Box, background music etc. There are plenty of places to research on the net, so have fun looking!! Let us know what you decide and why. :)

That's quite a big area there, podner.

You nmight want to decide on speakers first. They will determine what you need in a receiver, or even if you should get a receiver or separates.

With efficient speakers, such as Klipsch, Athena and some others, you don't need as much power to drive then to comfortable levels as you would if you are using less efficient speakers, such as Magnaplanar and others, where speatate power amps might be advisable.

so, ya wanna post in the speakers section first? ;)

Well, you need to figure out which one works best for you. There's not really a bad choice ... but it's your ears not anybody else's. So go ahead and visit Circuit City, Magnolia, A&B or whatever, and spend an hour listening to what they've got.
