these guys are pretty rediculous, they're the big 15" BIC venturi's, the only problem with them is that etheir cabinets are kindof thin and not well braced... so. this might've belonged in the diy forum, but. will installing my own bracing screw up any "internal resonation" or anything? i mean, on a sub it's mainly the volume of the enclosure, right? so if i take some space up with some bracing then add some polyfill, it should be about the same, no? opinions/experience? also, pillow stuffing at walmart: basically same as polyfill?

thanks for any insight.

...but, wow, these things are huge. :)

edit: now i'm gonna have to relocate my components, my cd player and dvd player skip when the subs hit... :)

If you add small braces it shouldn't affect the internal air volume. Just some dowels or even a short vertical strip on the walls should stiffen them up somewhat, but there isn't a lot that you can easily do to combat thin walls.

here's a pic of them just after i took them out of the box :) more pics of my basement room in a bit! now i need an SPL meter, i was worried that they may be okay, but not get loud enough... no. wow. i've got the reciever even on the boos/cut, and the subs are set at about 70% and even that will get old, and i'll probably turn them down after the newness of having them wears off :) i'm laying on my loveseat right now, and it kindof makes you sick with the vibrations :)

...i love having to turn things down because they're too much :)

...on an unrelated note... i now have a faint ground loop-sounding hum, but there's no grounding prong on the subs... it stops when you unplug the cable, which i made, of 12 gauge speaker wire and radioshack rca ends... could the wire be picking up interference, or is it somehow the fact that i think the reciever is plugged into a different circuit, even though there's no ground prong on the subs... ideas?

...no seriously, this is great, but the hum is starting to realy torque me off... and it's only been like 22 hours... any ideas? i used normal side-by-side speaker wire for my sub cable, now i know that all these "high end" sub cables are rediculous, but could my wires be picking up something? the only thing that throws me is that i still have the hum when my lights are off... any ideas at all?

Thanks for anything you have to offer!

i use car audio rca's b/c they are so long and so cheap yet sound fine. I noticed no difference over my "gold series" sub cable that i returned after thinking it would improve the performance that i paid like $75 for. I forget the grand though:eek:

I was just wondering if you have considered a RG6 Cable with RCA ends for your subwoofer. They tend to do quite well and are really cheap to make if you can manage to make them and find a tool to put the rca's on. Buy it bulk and use RCA's made for the cable. I am sensing that your wires you made are causing the humming. If they loose either side of the balanced signal it will humm really bad.

I also tend to get a buzz in my subs if I don't use shielded cables. They don't have to be expensive, a couple of bucks at monoprice.
