So I got my new receiver.....Pics added!

now I need to jump 10yrs in time from my ole' pro-logic setup and get my new HK 330 receiver and the other components working like a well oiled machine.

I'll start off with what I think is the "right way" and then you guys can tell me what the "right way" really is.:D

HK330 to Pioneer DV-588A: Component Video and Optical digital audio? I want to be able to play both SACD and DVD-A.

Direct Sat. R-10 DVR to HK330: S-video and composite for audio. R-10 has no optical or coaxial digital out/in that I see.

Kenwood 200disc CD changer to HK330: Can I get away with just the digital connection? There is also a system control port on the changer, is this compatible with the remote ports on the HK? Is it even needed?

HK330 to Sony Trinitron: Component monitor

PS2 to HK330: audio composite to receiver, video composite to TV?

My noob colors really bled through on this one huh?? Any and all help will be much appreciated so I can run out and get the proper interconnects and cables.

1. I would use component video, optical audio, and since you're going to want SACD and DVD-A ability, the analog 5.1 connections too. The digital output is handy just because it will allow you to use your receiver's bass management settings, which are probably better than the player's.

2. Sounds good.

3. While I'm not sure about the control, digital audio is fine.

4. If you have component video, then yes.

5. Aw hell naw! Pick up a component video connection for your PS2 and an optical cable. Make the most of your system!

Like Jax said, you'll also need 6 RCA's for SACD. Component and optical are fine. I prefer coax over optical - but you won't hear any audible difference.

Direct Sat. R-10 DVR to HK330: S-video and composite for audio. R-10 has no optical or coaxial digital out/in that I see.
That stinks. S-video is over 10 yrs old. Doesn't your DVR offer component r/g/b? Are you leasing the DVR from your sat. provider? If so, make them give you their latest model.

Kenwood 200disc CD changer to HK330: Can I get away with just the digital connection? There is also a system control port on the changer, is this compatible with the remote ports on the HK? Is it even needed?
For two channel audio, I prefer rca cables. You seem to get slightly higher dB's - try it both ways.
HK330 to Sony Trinitron: Component monitor
Good.

PS2 to HK330: audio composite to receiver, video composite to TV?
Or component if available - much better pic quality.

Wasn't aware they made a component cable for the PS2?(one quick google search and bam!) Ha, all this time and I didn't even realize the PS2 came with a optical port! Thanks U 2.

Hmm, the HK only has two digital optical in's.

Buckeye,
Your right, just recheck the R-10 it's got an optical. So that means I should go optical with PS2 and the R-10 and coax on the DVD player? RCA's on the Cd player.

Yeah, some of the newer games like San Andreas and MGSIII have surround sound. Granted it's not DTS, but it's still super cool.

Well, I got everything hooked up but have one problem. I can't get a video signal from the DVD player to the TV. I have component-in to the receiver, then out to the TV. I don't know what digital source to put the receiver in? I get sound but no video and if I put a composite cable between the DVD and the receiver the video appears???

I think your receiver has assignable component video inputs. So you need to assign the component video input you're using with the DVD player to the digital input you're using with the DVD player.

The receiver and tv inputs are both correctly selected?

When I set the receiver to coax 1, I get sound but no video, I flip through all the other selections under DVD and get nothing.

My OSD shows DVD/coax 1 when I get sound.

DVD player has component to component dvd on the receiver. Along with the coax digital audio to the number 1 coax-in on the receiver.

Receiver has "component monitor" going to the TV's only component video. If the TV has a component in setting I don't see it?

On video 1 on the TV I get the blue screen, I change it to video 4 and I get a scrambled widescreen of the movie.....but no OSD with video 4 like I do with video 1. Maybe this helps?

What are all your tv selectable input options? Is the receiver set to DVD or 6(?) channel direct?

(This almost sounds like the old fashioned VCR set to channel 3, TV set to channel 4 symptom. :( )

Receiver is set to DVD. TV options are video 1-4. I've flipped through all of them a number of times. Went to the menu on the TV to see if there was something I had to set differently for component but didn't see anything.

Ok, maybe this will simplify things.

Receiver to TV is setup like this:

TV has video 1-4 on the back with 4 being the only component input.

On the receiver I am using the DVD component-in from the DVD player and the Monitor component to the TV video 4 component input. Just like the diagram shows that I got with the receiver.

The movie shows up in diagonal lines in Video 4. I'm completely stumped.

The Receiver has these digital selections: Optical 1-3, Analog and Coax 1-3.

The OSD does not work on any of them but will work if the TV is on video 1 where I have a S-video cable running from the DVR to the receiver to the TV.

I hate wiring!!!

I'm going to go on a little run and clear my head so I can start fresh. I know I'm going to be kicking my self in the butt on this one.:D

Ok, I eliminated the receiver and hooked up the dvd player straight to the TV and get the same results.....that's one variable down.

I went throught all of the DVD intial setup menu and everything is set up correctly. I'm guessing it's the TV but cannot locate the owners manual for it.

TV model number is: KV 32f300

It's amazing what a little run can do to clear the mind. :) Congrats, Matt. Now don't confuse us anymore, lol.

PS: I'm envious of the resolution on your camera.

I'm gald that is over so I can watch some movies now but hey, I learned some info the hard way!;) It's amazing what 10 years of technology can do for sound. Star Wars III was like watching a completely different movie in DD II. I tried out a DTS demo disc and it was just awesome!

The camera is a 2 yr old canon powershot S50(5MP).
