So I bought New Mains....

Well.... I came, I saw, I begged my parents to let me buy them (wrote them off as a christmas present) and now I have new mains.

I bought a pair of Energy C-1's, bookshelf speakers.

Up close detailed pic.

I only did this as they were 200 CAD for the pair. I saw a flyer saying they were on sale and I had to listen. I had no idea what I wanted this year, so boxing day was going to be my gift day, but boxing day came early. I brought Eagles: Hell Freezes Over to listen with and I must say, I was completely blown away by the fullness of the sound. The midrange was so different from what I heard from my old mains. Although my old mains are decent for what I paid, they can't keep up at high volumes. They start to compress and get forward in the midrange.

So happy, and now I might never leave my room (not that I do anyway)

Here's some pics. No review this time, still recovering from the other one

Very, very nice Sheep. Good for you, but since Santa visited early you will have to go - to your room on Christmas day.
I'm sure you won't mind.:p

EDIT:: Santa came early for me as well, I'm sure you saw...;)

Congrats!

Hi Sheep,

as far as the sound, you mention fullness? in the sense that freq. range is reproduced evenly? Would you quantify them as being accurate?

I am looking for an speaker set (FR/FL and Centre) with more focus on accurate imaging than SPL output and it just so happens that there is a local Energy dealer in town. I might pop in and listen to them.

BTW, they look very well finished.

Sounds like a great deal (no pun intended).

Again, congrats.

Well I'll put it to you this way. I was at -20 on my reciever (goes to 0) listening to Hell freezes Over and I didn't notice my sub wasn't on. Seriously. My room is 16x12 and they have a great deal of bass for their size. I had it in stereo(DTS then turned effect off) as I only wanted to hear these, and the sub didn't get a signal.

They are not bright. And my room has a bare concrete floor. A bad recording can make them sound bright, but its the speaker showing flaws, not hiding them. Eagles never EVER sounded bright and again, I went LOUD. These tweeters are really good. If you can get a similar deal, I say go for it. I am thrilled with these, and they will be in my system for a long time. Now that I think about it, the bass from these is better then my towers, which have 6.5inch drivers. It might not be as deep, but its tight.

Man I'm so happy with these. :)

RJBudz,
You should change your statement to say "Brian and Brian...." ;)

How does the Energy compare to those Infinity floorstanders in that picture?

Heh, there not Infinity's. I can see how the picutre is confusing as my camera stinks.

They are made by a company called Pro-Linear, that are only in Canada. They are what was replaced by the Energy's.

If you want to know, they were a good speaker. Got 'em new for 200(pair), and they can pump out bass into the low 40's. The bass was a bit boomy, and the cabinet could have been a little stronger but good none the less. The highs were decent (silk dome tweeter - 1"), but the midrange and treble became very forward and harsh in high SPL, or poor recordings. The energy's are also harsh with a poor recording, but they can go very loud and keep there composure.

This is a pic form the website.

My center and rears are also made by them. I had a whole set. They're not bad speakers, I don't know how they stack up against someone like BIC, never heard BIC's. I think they could give them a run for their money(without crossover mod:p ).

Hope this helps,

Hey Sheep,

I'm currently using the same exact speakers in my system and love them as well. They where a nice change for me coming from Paradigm which leans to the forward side to my ears. These just sound dead neutral to my ears with a nice full bass for their size. But my room is quite small and square so im getting a good dose of room gain. But to some extent I think Energy might have added slight boost at 80 to 100 to give this fullness.

The other nice thing is they tend to work pretty well with MP3's even the lower 128 to 192kbs ones sound respectable.

Where did you cross yours over by the way ? I will be mating mine with a sub in the near future so im a little curious.

Enjoy !!!

Hey,

My reciever from the time when yamaha didn't have multiple cross-over points. Its either 90hz, or full range.

Because they start to go around 70hz, I tried running them large and cut my sub around there. I'm not going to loose any power pushing these woofers, but my subwoofer isn't set at 90hz now. Helps with localization.

It seems to be a nice blend, but I have only had them for a day :)

Right now, I just like listening to them with no sub. I agree with the neutral sound, its intoxicating. As far as MP3's I havent really heard anything below 192. I try to get that quality or higher.

If you have Eagles: Hell Freezes Over I suggest listening to it with these in stereo. Even in my room with a bare concrete floor, its so warm yet detailed.

Hope this helps,
