So Confused..Dual HDMI Output Receiver

Good Evening,

I'm in the process of finishing our basement.. I haven't looked at technology in a couple of years but I did notice dual HDMI output ports on some A/V receivers. Basically what I'm looking to do is run a 5.1/7.1 (have't decided) surround sound system with our 75" Sony TV and hook up a 42" bar TV. What I'm looking for at the bar is to have a separate output off the receiver. So I'd like to have the football game on the 75" while my kids play PS4 at the bar TV (wet bar, basically a table). I'd also like to display the football game on both TV's when we have people over...

I've looked at a couple models but no one promotes the dual HDMI outputs, even if they are on the receiver, which makes me nervous.. When I went to Best Buy, they showed me models $900+.

I'd appreciate anyone's opinion.

Thanks,

Shawn

Most receivers will have 2nd HDMI out mirror the first one. This is designed for having same video on TV or Projector.
Make sure one you pick is actually meant for zone 2 hdmi out.

So maybe I wasn't the most clear.. I'm looking at receivers that have 2 HDMI outputs.. Would this receiver cover the things I'm looking for?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-7-2-ch-network-ready-4k-ultra-hd-and-3d-pass-through-a-v-home-theater-receiver-black/4919214.p?skuId=4919214
The link Lovinthehd provided explained your needs quite clearly. You will need a receiver capable of at least two zones, both audio AND video, not just two HDMI outputs. This is an example:
https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-A1050-7-2-Channel-MusicCast-Bluetooth/dp/B00YMN6FIM/ref=sr_1_8?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1491818964&sr=1-8&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_browse-bin:4794821011

Please note that receiver is the previous generation, not the current one, hence the lower price. But the ability to process two different signals and output to two different displays is not cheap!

kellysp, let me be brutally honest with you. You are going about this the wrong way.

First you will have trouble finding a receiver with zone 2 HDMI out. If you do find one, you don't want it. It will buy you a ton of grief. The reason is HDMI EDID. Extended Display Identification Data. These codes really dislike what you are doing and to cut a long story short the screens will interfere with each other in strange and annoying ways. You will then be on here posting endlessly.

The plain fact is that you need a receiver in each zone. Then connect a cable from a receiver that can show the same program on two screens, to an HDMI in on the screen in the distant location. I think you will have to do this, as if you plug it into the receiver, I suspect the other receiver will know that the receiver is not an end device, but a repeater device and not pass the signal.

Now you can use ARC, or the digital audio out, to get audio out of the zone 2 TV to the receiver in zone 2.

I would get a receiver with zone 2 preouts, in the main area, so you can at least share audio easily form main zone 1 receiver with the zone 2 receiver.

This is the only reliable way, of getting audio and video to show the same AV program in both zones, and display independent program at the same time in the different areas.

If you try and avoid the expense of two receivers you will regret it.
