so, a multi-faceted, unusual question

i'm moving into a house in a few weeks that has a large unfinished basement, which we're planning on using to throw parties, bar/club style, we don't really have to worry about neighbors, we're outside of town, my question is that, i'm looking for speaker to put inn thsi basement, and for that matter, it wouldn't hurt ot have a couple ouotdoor speakers for the backyard, now, the basement is probably 800 square feet in two big rooms, i was thinking about having half a dozen cheaper, little speakers instead of a couple bigger ones, so... does anyone have any cheaper little speakers that they like, any outdoor speakers that are a good value (they don't have to be discrete) and for that matter, i have multiple zones (i have a 2500) but how do i drive half a dozen speakers, i think the extra zones are only 2 channel, thanks for all of your recommendations, oh, a budget would probably be around 150-200 bucks, total, (we're not talking high-end here, just high spl) and outdoor speakers are optional, but i need some for the basement, in a few weeks, gracias,

im all for keeping things in perspective with a budget & please believe me when i say im not making fun of your budget but you will not get high spl's for $150 to $200,no way no how.

Used Klipsch for inside. Very efficient, so you don't need a ton of power to generate decent SPLs. Via the receiver, you would be able to drive a main set and a secondary set in stereo without a switch, but to drive multiple zones simultaneously, you aren't going to be able to do what you're asking at that price point. In order to run multiple zones, you will need either an impedance matching switch box or an impedance matching volume control for each pair of speakers being driven in the other zones, and that is already outside your budget (new) without even getting to the speakers.

not necessarily hi-fi, just something-fi (not wal-mart)

sorry i kindof blew some people's minds on the price point, but i'm not necessarily looking high end or anything, just something better than bose :p for example i was considering a speaker like the yamaha ns6490 for the basement, which can be had at around $45 a pair on ebay, now they only have an spl of like 86 i think, but i was mostly wondering if anyone knew of some other diamond in the rough hthat was closer to 90, also, i can loosen up a bit, but not too much, oh, and thanks for the info about the ohm switcher, though more info on the subject would be great, thanks guys! i'm off to class, be back in a few hours...
thanks again,

p.s. i'd be mounting those, or any of these speakers from the ceiling, which isn't finished, i have open floor joists, so, bookshelf speakers, just thought that would help

One pair of Cerwins will do much more than six pieces of $*!*.

i agree 100%,if you want some spl's that will ROCK then you must have speaker's that have reasonably large driver's that can move some air,as i see it klipsch & cerwin vega are the 2 best out there that are affordable.

if you can afford about $500 to $700 used on a single pair of large floor stander's the klipsch cornwall's are unbeatable, who ever rated them at 100 watt's max was an idiot, cornwall's are capable of close to window breaking spl level's & can drink every last watt you want to throw at them,i put 1000 watt's through mine for year's,just think of it,a speaker that is 101 db efficient that can take just about unlimited power:eek:

if the cornwall's are too steep you can pick up a pair of klipsch heresy used for about $300,they move some air too but cerwin vega's are better in the bass dept than heresy's.

Look locally for some old (ie. 1970-80ish) 3 ways at the pawn shops.

what are some commonly, overlooked speakers at the pawn shops? and also, i guess my nievity, i never really thought about it, but you may be right, about the couple of good speakers being better than a bunch of cheap stuff, i still stand pretty close to my 200ish price point, i have a bunch of horribly expensive stuff and i shouldn't spend anything, but i also can't stand to have parties without noise, and i don't want my good stuff down there. but i'll keep the two speaker option in mine, and i'm not too good to buy used stuff on ebay, or in pawn shops, kilpsch has high spl's usually? and thanks guys for everything,

okay, so... i'm not necessarily a jensen fan, but... i found some jensen jp-1300 speakers on ebay for fifty bucks apiece, they claim to have a spl of 94db, what is the public opinion on them? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5856006599
fur covered speaker's:confused: well i guess if you dont mind furry speaker's the price sure is right,at 94 db they should (in theory) be able to produce a decent volume.

yeah, they won't win any beauty contests, but since there are going to be 60-80 21-25 year old's, drunk, and dancing, i figured they are cheap and durable looking :) plus, with a rack mount amp, i can use them at gigs :)
