I have had the Samsung HLP5085 pedestal model for about three weeks now and I am noticing smudges or watermarks in the bottom left and right of the screen when a white background appears  .They sometimes go away when the set is warmed up but not all the time, its getting real annoying. What is this and how do I get rid of them for good.????

Your Samsung is a DLP rear-projection TV? right?

As far as I know, I think they are not susceptible to EMI (electro-magnetic interference) like CRT TVs.

Is there lots of humidity where the TV is situated? I wonder if some kind of moisture is present fogging up the lens. Check you user manual to see what the tolerances are that your TV is suppose to operate in.

I suspect that you might also have dust that has settled inside your unit on top of the projector lens.

Those are possibly some reasons but I would give your vendor/Samsung a call to see what best course of action to take.

Good Luck.

Have you noticed if the smudges have moved/shifted on the display? Other than the smudging have you noticed any other quality issues like artifacts, color issues, focus etc? Have you looked at the problem from all angles, seriously, meaning starting from center than towards the outer edge of sceen? any changes in observation? You should document as much as possible in prep. for a service call.

From what I have read about this stuff, it's most likely the screen and/or the projector lens. Mostly like due to some dust deposits. I know it doesn't narrow it down much.

Like someone posted earlier, it think you should call in for warranty service.

Good luck.
