I'm seriously considering adding a velodyne sms-1 to my system. I can't find any reviews on this piece. Has anyone had experience with this and does it work as advertised?

I was on the "beta test" for the SMS-1, and have had one here since last summer. It is absolutely killer in its ability to fine tune a subwoofer.

Mike, thanks for the link, very helpful.

Craig, i currently have a "y" at my pre-pro, with one cable feeding a rear sub and another cable (with another y) feeding two front subs. Will there be a problem with integration?

No - In fact, the SMS-1 has three LFE outputs, if you wanted, you could actually eq your 3 together for your primary listening position, using the SMS-1 as a splitter, EQ, and subwoofer volume control.

Craig, in your experience with this piece would i be better off tuning all three subs as one or adjusting each one individually?

From the SMS-1 manual:
Note that your SMS-1 can control up to three subwoofers. Each of the three subwoofers will receive the same conditioned signal from the SMS-1. If you wish to run more then three subwoofers, or wish to individually customize the signal to different subwoofers, you will need more than one SMS-1 connected in a “daisy-chain” configuration.
So If you connect more than 1 sub to the SMS-1 they will be treated as 1 sub and you will be able to adjust the overall fq response. What you can do is use the SMS-1 to find the best location for each sub individually and then integrate them all with the rest of your system. You can do the same thing with any of the DD series subs to integrate numerous subs.

Have a read through the manual to give you more of an understanding of how the SMS-1 works.

cheers:)
