I'm not sure how many get the HD feed of the Smithsonian Channel but they have had some really great music lately. Some of the recording quality could be better but in Sound Revolution Morgan Freeman takes a multi-episode look at the history of some great music.

Morgan Freeman traces the origins of bebop, jazz, rock and roll, and soul music, all emanating from "ground zero"-Clarksdale, Mississippi, and the Mississippi Delta. Listen and hear some great performances by artists like B.B. King, Ike Turner, Buddy Guy, Etta James, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Robert Cray, New Orleans All Stars, Modern Jazz Quartet, Clark Terry, Miles Davis, Mighty Clouds of Joy, LaVern Baker, The Neville Brothers, Solomon Burke, and many others.
In Electrified they look at the history of the electric guitar.
