i just got a pair of Dayton Audio DC28FT-8 tweeters for my smaller advents. I have 3 questions.

1. are they a good match for the crossovers in the speakers?

2. If they aren't a good match for the crossovers, what changes should i make to the crossovers?

3. would i be better off replacing the crossovers with something else?

i'd like to keep this simple and affordable. the crossovers are stock from 1973. the woofers have been refoamed and sound great.

i want the best sound i can get without spending a lot of money.

thanks in advance for the help.

That's unknown. Those two tweeters are highly unlikely to be similar. They also have different mounting dimensions.

The Dayton dome tweeter has a free resonance frequency of 596 Hz, suggesting a crossover frequency no lower than 3× that value, about 1800 Hz. However its behavior will change once it's mounted in the cabinet, and this usually results in a higher crossover frequency. Its sensitivity is 89 dB. The output of the tweeter must be balanced with that of the woofer.

Both those values are unknown for the original Advent tweeter.

Here is the original crossover:

The woofer has no filter at all.

The tweeter has what looks like a 3rd order electrical filter (it might be a shaped 2nd order filter?), but the inductance of the iron core inductor is not shown. Without knowing that value, we can only guess what the crossover frequency is.
2. If they aren't a good match for the crossovers, what changes should i make to the crossovers?
Unknown. Measurements will be required after the new tweeters are mounted in those cabinets.
3. would i be better off replacing the crossovers with something else?
Almost certainly. Why did you buy those tweeters before asking?

i bought the tweeters because one of the original tweeters was damaged and not working. what little i could gather about the crossovers indicated that the x-over point is 1800 hz and the specs of the Dayton's indicated they would work pretty well with that frequency or close enough. i am willing to just buy some drop in replacements. right now the new tweeters don't blend as well with the woofers as the original. its like i can hear the woofer and tweeter separately and the tweeters seem pretty loud.
