So a few of my clients would like me to start recording some of their performances and various other things. I figured I would just transform my room into a small studio.

I have set a few things up just to get a sense of how I would like things to sit. Excuse the dirty room.

I've already made a few racks for processing gear. Two, each one sitting underneath the desk on each side.

I would also like to get a a few room treatments.

Let me give you a short list of how things are set up as of now. This is no way the final setup, and simply for listening to how things sound right now.

EMU 1212m -> Pioneer VSX-815 -> Behringer 2030p + Dayton 12" sub (The 150w prebuilt one)

One of the issues I've noticed already, is that it sounds, empty. I'm not sure how to put it. Don't get me wrong, its the best sounding setup I've ever heard, but something is missing. I can't quite put my finger on it. I guess the best way I could put it is that the mid range is lacking, or something is out of phase.

Also, I think the Pioneer VSX-815 has DSP settings that you can't bypass. Seems like it's applying DSP settings like room size, speaker size. etc... I'm wondering if this is the cause, or if it's due to the placement of my speakers.

I'll be updating as I clear out the room and order room treatments. Speaking of which, how would I go about figuring out what treatments to use? I'm not looking to spend too much here.

Heh, there's a lot of things in the room that won't be there in the coming weeks.

What software do you use?

I've used Sound Forge, Acid Pro and combined it with Vegas Pro (all SONY) to make 5.1 surround DVDs of my wife and her friends doing chamber music.

I'm sure there's better, but when it was free (employer bought for for some video projects), and I'm familar with it (somewhat).

I also have a Vestax HDR-6 sitting around doing nothing if you need a 6 channel digital recorder (price and shipping on request).

Even though I don't know anything about studios I will say that 3 monitors, a bottle of Glass Plus and a fork sure make it look like you mean business.:)

The speakers, are those Behringers?

Ha, this is what I get for taking a picture of a dirty room.

Yes, they are Behringer, 2030p's.

Here's some measurements of them done by wmax, if you havn't already seen them.

Sorry if it's a little hard to read.
