Well they finally arrived. I have owned the B&W 300 series, and 600 series and just made the move to the FPM series becuase I wanted something to complement my plasma. I was after looks as much as sound, and becuase I have an external video scaler sending the native res to my plasma via the VGA input on the front of the panal I wanted a thin centre speaker to go infront and block the uglyness of that.
WOW. Right out of the box i knew I made the right choice. So few speakers ( or any AV equipment) look jaw dropping. At best most speakers are tollerable and some even look cool, but unless you want to sped 40-50k and outfit yourself with B&O equipment you rare see speakers that would fit in architectual digest, or into a home with a contempory look.
Still with looks aside, I have been used to at least the quality of the B&W 600 series and would always question my purchase if I downgraded in sound quality, so my purchase wasa risk, but I needed flat speakers so i took the dive. The guys at B&W told me via email that the FPM series was in their opinion a slightly better speaker. I am not sure if is becuase they have 2 drivers, or the FPM 6 (which is what i bought) are much bigger then the 601s i had before, but I have to say they are a better sounding speaker in the mid to high rang then the 600 series. Tey only extend down to 65, so a good sub that can nail the higher range low frequency would be needed.
In conclusion if you are like me and want speakers to be something you show case like a piece of art, rather then have them simply becuase you need them, and are happy with the quality of at least the 600 series from B&W then trust in the FPM series. It sounds great and looks great. You satisfy two of your senses for the price of one.Well they are sort of pricy, so you satisy for two senses for the price of two.
