Small Discount on Dayton MK400 speakers at the moment

This is probably not enough of a discount to sway anyone, but the MK402 and MK442 are on sale at the moment. I liked the MK402s but I loved the MK442s. If you are looking for a really cheap but good speaker system, look at a pair of MK442s. They are way better than any $90/pair speaker set has a right to be.

I couldn't say. There are some key differences though. The JBLs do not extend nearly as deep in low frequencies, though they surely will have an advantage in dynamic range. It looks like they are sealed and really intended for wall-mounting. My guess is that the JBLs might do better in the role of a surround speaker but not as a conventional stereo stand-mounted pair, but, not having heard or measured them, that is only a guess.
