small bedside recommendation

They sell inexpensive bedside clock radio's with CD players at BB and CC. Somewhere around $50-$100 I think. I suspect the sound quality is so-so, but for baby music it may be fine.

I'd like a good sound quality one... I know it's hard for under $300.

TEAC SL-D88 Clock Radio and CD Player sounds like good.

Anything else I should look into before we buy the TEAC?

Thank you for your recommendation, bitpoh.

If you're willing to take up some space...

Two of these: http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/features/542089023
Cheap CD Player from a local store (even a portable with an 1/8"-RCA adapter will work well)
$25 Vintage receiver from your local Salvation Army or Goodwill store
Some cheap 16ga speaker wire from the store of your choice

It'll sound great and still cost you about half that of the Wave radio.

That looks nice. So the benefit is we will get surround sound system...

It might be hard to get "$25 Vintage receiver from your local Salvation Army or Goodwill store"..

Well, it wouldn't be surround. But it would give you a nice little stereo setup that will sound leagues better than a fancy clock-radio.

As far as the receiver goes, just look around your local thrift stores. They almost always have old audio equipment, most of it in working order. Basically all of the classic receivers from Pioneer, Marantz, Yamaha, etc. are beasts.

Those little CSW radios do have a dpeth of tone unrivaled by the others.

It's that built in powered subwoofer that does it.

I've got a Model 88 and wouldn't trade it for the world and I'm fairly sure the 740 carries on the family tradition.

www.hifi.com does offer these at a slight discount in their specials section if you are really interested.

some things are worth paying a little more for. In mycase it,s a tiny, one piece great sounding stereo table radio.

P.S. I just have the radio. I plugged in a CD walkman and have the benefit of a CD player for cheap!

We wanted to get a small system for bedside. Something like the Bose Wave System or Cambridge SoundWorks SoundWorks Radio CD 740.

The above two are very good, but a little expensive for us. Can someone recommend some alternative at under $300 range?

We hope to use this to play some bedtime music to our new born baby.

Many thanks!
I've heard good things about Tivolis
Tivoli

If you don't need a CD player, Cambridge also has another model - Radio 730 - for $150 less.

Could you tell me which Model 88? Did you mean TEAC SL-D88 Clock Radio and CD Player?

Thanks!

The CSW model 88 was the predecessor to their current models 730/740 radios. I love mine (which I've had since '99) and I'm thinking that the 730/740 retained all the good features of my 88 and added some new ones.

...sorry if I was unclear.
