how come i don't see a 54" G15?

:D

Mike,

I believe the new Panasonic displays -- in terms of price going from the low to high end fall this way, in the terms of their letter assigned line:

C , X , G , V

I am not sure what the differences between the G10 and G15 models are -- perhaps the 15 is thinner -- and then the V series has wireless operation and the panel is super thing -- I think like only 1.2"... saw one and it was definitely thinner than the 'LED' Samsungs....

hmm. i wonder how much better the picture quality is of the V over the G.

i was really attracted by the G10 prices. i'd like to set a limit of 1800 shipped within the US, UNLESS the V is orgasmically better. :D

Sorry....I was remiss on my last post...there was a series left off of the list....it should have been from low to high end...

C , X , G , V , Z

I thought there was something missing....what I meant to say was I saw a Z series next to a V series at a Magnolia store. The V series is pretty darn thin...nearly as thing as the Samsung LEDs perhaps just a bit thicker, and the Z is crazy thin and expensive -- the 54" Z series is like $5.5k I believe...

As for picture quality....there is a distinct difference that I saw going from the G to V series, but the G series is certainly no slouch....they all look very nice. If $1,800 is your price check these out:

54" G10 for $1,725 Shipped

or

50" V10 for $1,825 Shipped

I'm wondering what would be a significant PQ upgrade over my PZ850.

I doubt it would be a huge margin...

Our 850's just have a great picture, and I'm more then happy with it...

When I asked a forum member/dealer at AVS who sells both, before I bought my 65", why he went with the 65" Panny 850 over the 60" Pio Elite -- he said... "Its good enough and close enough - the extra 5" was worth it for me."

V10 - 1080p
G15 - 1080p
G10 - 1080p
S1- 1080p
X1 - 768p
U1 - 1080p
C1 - 768p

Also there are the Costco & Sam's Club Models:

The main difference between the G10 & G15 is the G15 has a thinner panel.

I think you should take a look at the S1 series. Unless you desperately need THX mode (which by all accounts is too dim), Vierra cast, or a host of other (IMO) superfluous features, the S1 series has the same panel as the V and G series at a lower price. For $1800, you could nab a solid 58" of S1 rather than 54" of G10. That's a 15% increase in viewing area!

Ultimately it comes down to your priorities, but for me the screen size was more important than the "step-up" features offered in the G10 series.

... it didn't hurt that I nabbed the S1 for $1500 on Black Friday, either. :D

The Z series is wireless and the thinnest at 1''...and the more pricy too at 5500$ usd for the 54''...then you have the V10 series followed by the G10 wich is 4.2'' thick and the G15 wich are the same exept that the G15 is thinner at 3.9'' and they also produced some G15 models that are 2.2'' thick...then you have the S1 and S14 wich are not THX certified...then you have the U1 series...all the other series are 720p...X1....X14 and C1.

You must know that if you watch the THX mode at night in a dark room it is awesome!...you gain in color accuracy and black level...personally i could not watch a blu-ray without THX since iv experienced it... i think its worth it.

I'm sure it is! Perhaps if I had better light control and/or watched more movies, I'd have made the same choice.

As it is, I use my set primarily for games right when I get home from work, so DVE calibration was ample for what I needed. Certainly, the OP may likely find their priorities in line with yours.

It boils down to preference, no doubt. Just thought I'd put in my two cents on the S1 series since it wasn't getting a lot of lip service in the discussion and I'm IN LOVE with mine (as you obviously are with your G10)!

I agree that for games the S1 is a very good set too...i meant that if the op is planning to watch movies in blu-ray a lot that the THX mode is worth it.

Well, for some people the thinner back panel might look better to stare at while connecting the cables. :D :D :D

For the best performance with higher ambient light, it is the Z1, due to its new AR filter. Otherwise, it's on par with the V10 for darker conditions.

Of course, that comes at a premium! (besides the 1" thickness, + wireless HDMI receiver; only need to plug in power cord, that's it).
