Skinny HDMI? DIY Terminating?

Okay, I have 3/4" conduit pulled to my projector and plasma, yet have found that HDMI is STILL to wide to allow me to add the cable to my system.

When will a vendor get off their tush and make a HDMI cable that has a small (firewire or mini-usb) end and include a mini-HDMI to normal size HDMI adapter so that I can get this wire where it needs to go.

Or better yet, a raw cable that I can terminate on my own?

Or is there something out there already that will allow me to setup the two 40 foot runs that I need in my home.

How the heck am I supposed to watch Blu-Ray Disc in full HD if I can't get a HDMI cable to my set?

Poor design taken one step further! :)

Anyone have any ideas?

I know Ram Electronics has what you need for VGA, so I sent them an email asking about an HDMI version. We'll see what I get back.

I am conducting a beta test on HDMI cables that may work for you. I just measured the shell and it is just less than 3/4" I will have to locate some conduit to see if it will pull. Do you have EMT, flex or plastic and do you have any tight bends or are they all sweeps? If it works out I will seek permission to give the info to you

EMT... err... flex??? Not sure what the difference is.

So, how about this: It is orange Carlon Conduit that I picked up at Smart Home. The plastic corrugated stuff designed for low voltage pulls.

One bend is fairly tight as it is between the ceiling and the wall, but not terribly tight. Perhaps a 8 inch radius? My photos show that it is at the very least a 8" radius, perhaps wider. So, pretty good to pull through.

Still a big market for the first guys who want to make that first mini-HDMI connection and include a mini to full size adapter in the box. Or a DIY HDMI end. Not necessarily a full 'crimp' type connection, but something proprietary would work.

Just throwing out my million dollar ideas so I can get a freakin' solution that someone should have marketed already. ;)

The conduit shown in the picture is 3/4" Cantex PVC Flex ENT
The HDMI cable fit and would pull cleanly, You may need to use wire lube if you have tight sweeps or long runs The cable is Planet Waves.

I just did completed a BETA test on the 25ft, 50ft and 75ft and they all passed the 6.75Mhz burst pattern and 5.0 Mhz zone plate was clear and sharp even on the 75ft cable. The 25ft cable part # is HDMI25 I don’t know if they Are shipping yet or what their method of distribution will be but they are very nice cables www.planetwaves.com

Thanks for the info - let me know if there is a 50 footer or two extra laying around. :)

I am almost scared of the pricing. I'm prepared for Blue Jeans Cable prices... not so sure about some of the other companies who want their stuff to fall into the 'exotics' category. It's just going to a $3K plasma and a $2K projector. Not going to spend $500 on cables. Not that I have a clue how much those cost.

Very nice website they have though. Scares me. ;)

If you are going to eventually pass 1080p through that cable, we have not yet put together our testing system, so realize we're testing for 1080i/720p at the moment.
