Site redsign ideas and fun :)

Long before I had heard of the Audioholics site re-design, I had begun to make a template for what I think the site would look like if it was more Web 2.0-esque. But due to time and life, I was not able to continue with the project, and had actually completely forgotten about it.

When the re-design surfaced again in one of the threads, I remembered the project and thought to quickly complete the first draft (it's still incomplete and I'm still trying to get the blues to work :( ) before the re-design is rolled out.

The entire site is the picture, so ignore the white background on the page which has the picture :p

I think it would be fun to have people submit their own designs and see if it matches up to what the Audioholics team had in mind :) Who knows, maybe we'll even inspire them! Let me know your thoughts:D Remember, the site still has to maintain the same 'feel' as the current one.

Nice design, I like it.
It'd also be nice if the articles were organized in something other than chronological order, so we could go back and find an article without having to do a google search.

Not bad... we put the new navigation succinctly across the top which leaves room open to the right for better organization fo content (and yes banners). Reviews will be chronological, but the search system is REAL TIME, enabling you to find results before you're even done typing.

It's very web 2.0.

Thanks guys...the new site sounds like it's going to be killer! It would be easier to do this if we knew what your site re-design goals/params were :)

In my heart I wanted to open up the site design to our members and let them in on it. In reality I knew we'd get 400 opinions and lots of discord, so we're going to take feedback after it's live and see if there's anything that everyone really hates. It's so much better than the current site in terms of navigation and functionality that I'm not sure how it can be perceived as anything but a leap forward. How about this, though (my version of 20 questions for anyone reading this thread):

What are some features you'd like to see in a new Audioholics site redesign?

I absolutely agree with you. This is more of a experiment to see what the users come up with.

For me personally, apart from an updated look and feel, it's really the navigation and the location of webpages that really needed the biggest improvement.

I didn't even see the press-releases section until I had started poking around and doing my version of the redesign. Also the navigation seems to have duplicated a lot of the links on top as well, so an improvement to the navigation is a huge step forward.

I'm also trying to work into the re-design a 'tag' or categories feature for each artcile so that you can view reviews by receivers only or Amps or both or recievers, amps and projectors, etc.

You can do this in the new site (simply by directory), plus you can bring up everything by searching a particular section via the manufacturer.

Forum awards.

Not really a redesign, but definitely a good feature.

Good idea about the sort by manufacturer option!

Will you guys think of expanding your rating system to 10 instead of 5? I mean really, it's getting a bit out of hand when you have to decide between a 5, a 4.75 and a 4.25 :p

I mean I know some of the reviews are subjective, but still! Expanding the rating system might make it easier for some of us to figure out just how different one system is from another.

It's not really related to the redesign - I'm comfortable with the site as it is to be honest - but I like the idea of .gif avatars as well as being able to change the titles under our names. I believe both used to be allowed. Why aren't they anymore?
