Site question, people online?

I was just wondering, why does it always show here thousands of unregistered people online, and only a hundred or two members? Is that just all stuff like google and yahoo bots? I run some big vB forums too, but have never seen a ratio anywhere near like what there is here.

Just wondering ...

Hopefully the site is just really popular with people who are looking for information. I can't tell you the real answer, though.

I believe it was mentioned previously by the Mods - something about expiration. It does not mean all those people are actually on, but that they were on recently and their presence has not expired even though they are no longer actually browsing. I don't know WHY it is like that now, but I believe the explaination was something along those lines.

The cache expiration varies from site to site, but in general we get tons of traffic from Google which has always resulted in tons of "Guests".

a site suggestion for Clint...

Clint,
Love the site, and recommend it to many newbies, as a crash course on A/V and its many nuances...but I'm wondering...with the explosion in Home Theatres and specifically HTPC's, why no thread in the forums for tips on setting up PC/Server based systems?
The computer mags have virtually ignored the newest Audio/Video source. While they talk about them lightly, there is little mentioned about quality, use, measurement and troubleshooting of various brands of Audio/Video PC based recording, playback, and processing devices on the market.
This as well as software and ancillary products that enhance the truly modern A/V Home Theatre Experience, I am sure would be a logical extention to your forums, as they seem to be more measurement (ie:HARD FACT Based), as compared to any other other forums that tend to be advertisement based.
While this would be a very large undertaking to cover these topics thoroughly, I think the feedback would be helpful to A/V Audiholics and HT Builders and enthusiasts in helping to sort the junk from the hunks.
PS: Perhaps a thread on optimizing Digital HDTV Tuner Signals, including placement and antenna/video amplifier reviews.

A good suggestion on HTPCs. It comes up from time to time, such as in the thread linked here. I'm posting it because it shows a response from Clint on the topic that you can read until he has a chance to respond here.
