Simultaneous Day and Date Releases Becoming More Frequent

This is the second potential threat to theater owners in which movies hit the big screen and are released on DVD simultaneously. This time, the simultaneous release involves none other than cable giant Comcast. We'll be watching patiently to see how this plays out. If anything it could be a boon to independent filmmakers. With Hollywood taking a veritable "nap" in the originality department - could this be a sign that independent films are poised for a takeover in the home theater?

One can only hope there will be a wake up call in Hollywood as a result of consumers being able to have a broader spectrum of choices than just the blockbusters. If this does create a huge new forum for indi films everyone envolved will benefit. Even the giant movie theatres I bet will see some increase in sells because we are the minority that has a theater at home and would be inclined to watch a majority of our movies in the comforts of our homes. While others will hear about good movies and go the theatre to see them.

I've been waiting to see this sort of thing happen for years, its been a topic of debate between me and one of my close friends for awhile because he actually owns a few theaters and hates the idea, but i think hes beginning to come around, hopefully more do
