simple onkyo AVR question

before i rewire everything, if i engage the "stereo" mode on my Onkyo
TX-SR805 and play a standard CD, will the main speakers and subwoofer play or only the main speakers? if i want the sub to play (which i do) are any changes needed in setup (i think the mains cannot be set to large, correct?). thanx!

Rewire? How is is wired now?

I'd say give it a try and see for yourself.

I do know with my denon 2802, when I select "stereo", the main L/R speakers play full range (set to "large") and the subwoofer (set to "yes") also plays.

YMMV. That's why I say try it.

all my 2 channel stuff goes through my 2 channel system. thinking about sharing some things with the HT system.

Sharing?

Speakers should be connected to one receiver only.

In any case, check your manual.

With the 805, CDs will play in stereo with the sub still on if your system is setup to do so. This assumes that you have not set your speakers to large BTW.

The only time that I know of when the sub is turned off is if you use either the Direct or Pure Modes. Either of these modes will disable nearly (if not all) post decoding digital processing (including bass management), and it also turns-off Audyssey.

yes sharing. as in my cd player - one output to the 2 channel system, one output to the HT system. that way i can listen to 2 channel music with and without sub. thanx for the answer sptrout. i was at work so i couldn't "read the manual" and i didn't want to have to wire up a bunch of things and change all my inputs around to see if it would work if someone could just take two seconds to say "yes that would work" or "no it won't". again, thanx sptrout.

which part of this question is unclear? it wasn't really meant to be a hard question. i have a 2 channel system. i share the main speakers with my HT system through my 2 channel preamp's HT bypass. however, there is no way to engage my subs with this 2 channel setup. so i thought it might be fun to use the unused optical outputs on some of my gear like my oppo and my squeezebox, run them into my onkyo AVR, and see what my main speakers sound like in stereo with the subs engaged. however this would only work if onkyo includes subwoofer in their stereo mode, which some AVR's do not (stereo is just that in some AVR's - 2 speakers, no sub). so there is the long and short of it.

Sorry, I didn't realize what an effort connecting a CD player was.

From your lack of detail when you said "rewire", I was left to believe the system was currently hooked up and you were simply too lazy to either try it yourself or read the manual.

But, now that you said you were at work and couldn't wait to get home and research it yourself by either trying it or, heaven forbid, read the manual, it all falls into place.

Of course, you could have used the FM, which is stereo also, but that would have taken a bit of thinking, wouldn't it?

Assuming your 805 works like my 606 and 906 then "direct mode" will play through the mains only. Stereo mode will use the mains and the subwoofer.
