I know people like to have there own "quip", or "style" in there sig, but come on, THEY'RE HUGE!

I find it rather ugly, and it makes the forum look messy. Call me an *******, but thats just my opinion.

I agree though...If you need a lot of space to show off your gear, then post it on "Members Systems"

It was a$s hole so technically you wouldn't call me AN *******.

But, back on topic, have you seen some of these sigs? One of them is a freaking design... A FUGLY ONE AT THAT!

Yeah, they're ridiculous. Some of them look like an inventory for BB. They even include every wire and old piece of equipment they own. I always thought a signature should say something about the person, not what they own.

Does the search function also look at the signature? I use to lurk at AVS a lot and I know they have a rule that says you should not post your equipment in your signature because searches for something that is in your signature will find all of your posts.

What I find quite funny is when they post something with only one or two lines and their signature is about five times larger than the post itself!

Irony. :D

Well, I suppose I am guilty of this but in my defense I think mine is at least tasteful in presentation. In addition, my sig has also generated interest in my gear from some posters curious about one component or another. Generating discussion is why we are here, right? I am proud of my gear and how hard I worked to not only buy it, but also to understand how the components work. Truthfully, I don't even see sigs anymore -- the content of the post is what matters to me.
Do what I did, grow a beard... I mean, make it a line. Mine still looks neat, and I don't look stupid.

HA! BB wishes they had my stuff. All the audio equipement there blows(cept for HTR 5990..).

Whats really sad is members that have been here for a long time, that don't even say what they have. And to top it off, they're wife joins. WTH man, pull up your pants!

There's this thing called...

..ego...Personally, I never understood why one would feel compelled to list their components, but it seems that not only is it a stroke of the aforementioned, but the provider thinks that listing their gear adds to their credibility in some manner.

There is a person who champions the importance of wire and even the color of dielectrics. This party has frequented many audio-related sites, and when questioned, produces a laundry list of web links to support his contentions in this regard. Unfortunately, they are all of his own creation and not one bit of truly meaningful information (i.e valid test results, etc.) seems contained therein. There are those in the audience who are both impressed and amazed by this seemingly endless and self-indulgent blather. "Gee"...they think to themselves..."he must be the real deal".

Same with these "signatures"...unfortunately, as the old Star-kist ad goes, those who know better don't want "...tuna with good taste, they want tuna that tastes good...".

I think folks like Mtrycrafts (who himself admits to having only a boom-box) has the right idea...it's the validty of the information provided that trumps the wallet factor.

Me? I admit to having a $7.00 GPX CDP (final cost after rebate) from Sears and a $5 pair of Koss 'phones from el Waldo-marto...

jimHJJ(...of course I have other stuff and around 40 years of music/hi-fi experience; the stuff is irrelevant...)

I like people to be able to see my equipment list. I actually get a lot of questions about the sub and speakers.

Simple solution: either dedicate an area where gear lists can be put up or simply say that the "Member's Systems Area" is where they go and say no gear lists in sig. like some other forums do.

There, I squeezed mine down too.

Is mine offensive? I believe the font size is "2".

I too get PM's asking about certain pieces of equipment and I do like when people give there opinion on something to be able to look at what they have and might be basing that opinion on.

I like 'em...

I haven't been a member very long but I like the equipment lists in the signatures. As you can see, I don't have anything in mine but I am preparing to upgrade a significant portion of my HT setup and I enoy seeing what others have decided on without going into a special section of the forums.

With that said, however, when a sig is so big that it dwarfs the actual post, it is a bit distracting...

OUCH!

I didn't know what I had was a prerequisite for joining your club!

If it makes you happy since you just HAVE to know:

B&K REF 7270 amp
Yamaha DVD-CX1 DVD-changer
Denon DCM-460 CD-changer
DISH ViP211 HD satelite receiver
Mitsubishi HS-(who cares) VCR
Optoma H78-DC3 DLP projector
Stewart 100' 16x9 Luxus Deluxe Screenwall w/Firehawk material
Canton Ergo 80 Front speakers
Canton Ergo CM-51 center
Canton THX S-10 surrounds
Canton Ergo In-wall rears
Canton AS-25 powered sub
2x Custom made subs w/ 12" Dayton Quatro drivers & 500 watt Bash amps
Xbox w/Logitec wireless controllers
PS1
Tributaries S-video Compensator
Tributaries Silver interconnects for projector, amp and DVD
Ixos Gamma interconnect for other components
Ixos Gamma in-wall wires (rears and sides)
MIT M-2 speaker cables (fronts and center)
Phillips Pronto Pro TSU6000 with RF receiver
Lutron Maestro IR lighting control

(When I get a digital camera I'll submit pictures of my CRIB!)

And that's just my room. Since you mentioned Loserwife, her system in the bedroom is another Canton Ergo 5.1 system with a Denon receiver. (receivers are for women :D )

You really think that's a better signature? I like the one I got :p

EDIT: (Besides, aren't you the one who started this thread and said they're too big)

I just skimmed the post...

But, one of the first things I did when I joined up this here forum was to turn signatures 'OFF' in the user CP. If you click on the 'USER CP' at the top of the page you can go in and completely turn off signatures so they don't cramp your reading and enjoyment of specific posts. Then, if you want to see more about a specific user you can simply click on their name which will show their signature.

Editorial rule

I think that sigs should obey the basic rule of the editorial column in the newspaper. No sig should be longer than can be read during the average dump.
Y'all are funny sometime. :D
