So, just learned that I'm not eligible to have my marijuana possession charges removed from my record.

That kind of puts a damper on the rest of my life.

Why would you have been able to get them removed?

The plan was to have them removed so I can you know, get a job. I've been fired from two jobs weeks after I was hired after the places of employment ran background checks.

I've missed out on so many opportunities because of this. I'm being treated like a violent criminal, and I'm not.

I just reviewed your posting history, I sort of get the idea now. Not sure why you think you may have been able to get them removed, though. I hate to be a ****, but you knew the potential consequences every time you bought a bag or lit up.

I'm 100% in favor of the legalization of marijuana, but it's not legal right now and you have to be willing to accept the consequences.

Anyway, I hope everything works out for you.

I was aware of what could happen. The first time it was my fault, the second time, my friend I were charged for a bag that my friend threw away when we were walking in the park near my house. He decided that he didn't want to outright admit it was his, so we were both charged. Needless to say, he's not my friend anymore.

I wish they would let me put this behind me. My lawyer was telling me that it is possible to have the offenses removed or closed off if they are preventing you from obtaining gainful employment, and it's doing a lot more than that.

That sucks.....but for the time being get new friends.

Consorting with felonious friends will always get you in trouble...its only a matter of when and where.

Sorry to hear about this continued situation Waffle. Such a BS issue to have to deal with. I hope it somehow works out. Don't give up though.

Don't worry, as soon as a controllable mechanism for profitting off of marijuana is established, it will be legalized. Liquor kills more people while legalized than weed has and ever will, but liquor is profitable and its distribution is controlled.

I'm actually pretty proud of myself for distancing myself from the wrong people. I've got a great group of friends who've helped me through this and a wonder girl friend who will support me through anything.

I wish I could be confident that it will be legalized, but people have been fighting it for 70+ years, and the way our government is right now...

How much did you have? If it was a minute amount, it's usually like a ticket more than any kind of major crime. If it was enough to distribute, it clearly shows a lack of regard for the law- not trying to be a nobk (the k is silent) but that would concern me if I was hiring, too. As far as the last incident with your former friend, if they couldn't prove you were involved with the possession of that bag, your lawyer should have been able to get you off. They have the burden of proof but with a prior possession rap, you definitely should have avoided it- sorry for the morals speech, but...

I guess the effect will have to do with the kind of jobs you're going after. Some don't mind minor offenses but will draw the line at violent crime. Also, don't let it go two weeks before they learn about it. Tell them up front, explain the situation and if you haven't given it up, do it now. The will put some distance between you and the drug.

Any employer will wonder what other laws and rules will be broken by someone who was arrested for possession of a substance that has been illegal since the '30s. I would consider talking to a job councilor about this. Look online for human resources forums where you might ask for opinions from people in that field.

Good luck.

Come on you can't tell me Obama doesn't look like a crackhead? He's gotta legalize it eventually. :)

There is no way in hell marijuana will be legalized in the united states. That would be the last place on earth. If the talk of health care causes so much drama, just imagine the uproar trying to legalize a controlled substance...not gonna happen atleast in this lifetime.

What type of work are you into that are requiring background checks?

Nearly every job you apply for these days in Ontario require a background check, even retail jobs.

I'm not sure where he lives, but I would assume it's becoming common practice these days.

No kidding. I will be getting the anal search on a job I just applied to recently. Criminal, credit and university background check.
