Newbie--bought the 50" sony plasma (industrial, no audio) thinking of buying the sony side mount speakers that go with it, mainly for aesthetics. Are these type speakers OK? And are they a big drop off from a good home theater system. Thanks,

Bob

I have never heard those particular sony speakers but was never impressed with other sony speakers I have heard. Not that they are bad, just not very good. There are some very repuitable companys that make "flat pannel friendly" spks, athena and definitive technology to name a few. They cost a little more but are well worth it.

I would suggest you take a look at Leon Speakers. They're specifically designed to compliment flat panels while maintaining good sound quality. What's more, they are size and finish matched to your TV, so they look like they should be there.

check out the Monitor Audio...

Monitor Audio has a line of speakers called Radius. The Radius 225 and 250 are specifically designed for plasmas (especially the 250s). Don't know the size of your plasma, but the 250's are close to 30 inches tall, but very shallow. The sound is really good, and the look is just as good. You have several choices for the finish genuine wood veneers, or black or white gloss lacquer (or silver if you must). Mounting options are strong. Definitely worth a look.
