Sidebar Ads

I know you guys need the ad revenue, but the sidebar ads in the forum are too much. Seriously. They're REALLY annoying. Get rid of them, please.

jaxvon;

I tell you what, if you can organize a group of forum members equally annoyed by them but willing to contribute on a monthly basis to make up for the ad revenue lost, we would be happy to take them down.

Put me down for a nickle.

Not enough? Ok ... keep the adds.

;)

Actually, I didn't even notice them till they were pointed out.

Exactly. We couldn't even get enough people to purchase our tshirts in which we earn a cool $2-3 per shirt to have the affiliate cut us a royalty check. The bottom line is consumers want free information. I don't blame them. Until that changes, folks will have to learn to live with the banners.

Try clicking them. You may even like where they take ya :p

I bought my t-shirt. In fact, I'm wearing it right now. Other people need to buy t-shirts too.

Heck, I have a bumper sticker as well. I did my part!

The truth of the matter is we have done almost no promotion of our apparel if for no other excuse then a lack of time. Regardless we created it not for generating revenue as much as we just wanted to get our brand out.

And Jaxvon, thanks for picking up some stuff

jaxvon,

If you think this is bad, you don't surf the web much. This is a dream compared to other sites. For instance, im a guitar player, but I use Tab to read music. When I want to figure out a song, I have to close about 5 pop-ups and then deal with those extremely shaky ads.

This is paradise for me.

I don't mind the adwords, or the ads on the main site, or even the top page banner. It's just that it makes everything really narrow. That's more the issue than the ads.

Side ads are a terrible idea.

They distract from the main page content and restrict the viewing area of the page.

Perhaps Audioholics should go the route of the SA forums and allow members a one time payment of say.. $19.99, to be able to disable all the ads. I'd pay, I think the information here is worth much more than that.

Otherwise, I dunno If you guys get money just for them being shown.. but I for one will not be clicking on any.

This is where commercial advertising will kill off consumer interest. Where once a user could come and find information, they will now be flooded with advertisements.

Banner ads up top, bottom and now on the side? Embedded 'On Mouse Over' links within posts? Where does it stop? I can assume soon we'll be receiving email spam as well? I hear that makes a few pennies.

Now begins the slow downward spiral.

I agree that the side ads need to go. I thought the sponsored links would be the end of those. I'll make sure to definatly not click on any of them now. :(

As I said, I didnt even notice them. Maybe I am using a higher resolution on my mon. then you guys.

The only things that I hate about ads (not including pop-ups; everyone hates those) is when the page is coded to load the add first, and the add server is running slow. So you spend too much time waiting for a page to load that should be fast, but is trying to load the add first.

Our information is only worth a one time fee of $19.99 to you? Sheesh

You just proved my point why we can't rely on our readers to generate any appreciable income.

As for pop ups and spam mail, those are two advertising venues we will never pursue. Our newsletter is opt in subscription only and is mostly filled with content, not advetorials.

You think we have alot of banners, try other home theater sites in comparision. What you will find is significantly more banner ads and significantly less real content.

As for the forum width, Clint will be addressing that when he gets back from a Conference he is attending next week.

I agree, that way we can keep the width. Good idea Mike.
