Hello all, I recently purchased an Xbox 360 Elite which comes with the HDMI cable standard. My TV is a Panasonic CT-36HL44 HDTV Television. This model came with the DVI/HDCP hook-up. Obviously the standard is now HDMI, so i bought an adapter to go from the Xbox's HDMI into my DVI-D hookup. The 480 setting on the Xbox is perfect, but when i select the available 1080i option, the entire image shrinks. It's almost like it is throwing it into a Wide screen image, but when it shrinks the image, it's not proportional. In other words it visually looks shrunk and much smaller than the 480 option, which fills the entire screen and looks "normal."

Any ideas? Some thought I lacked the HDCP compliant package on the television, but i've looked into that and mine is compliant.

Any suggestions would be great! Thank you all for your time-

Since it is a 4:3 aspect ratio, when you set the Xbox at 480, the picture fills the screen.

1080 is a 16:9 aspect ratio and to display it on the 4:3 TV, black bars show up above and below the picture. The picture size is reduced to ensure that the complete width of the picture fits on the screen. Your TV may have a zoom setting in which the height of the image is made to fit the hight of the screen, but you will loose some image on the sides.

Unfortunately, your TV is the issue here. The only way to get full picture on the 1080 setting is to get a Wide Screen TV.

Yes, unfortunately your TV is not in fact a HD televsion. It is capable of handling and displaying some HD signals, but that is all. It can't display HD signals in their native HD form (16:9) and because your TV is not a widescreen 16:9 display, it can't be classified as a HDTV.
