Hey I recently purchased a Pioneer VSX-815 to power my Jamo E855's. After looking over the specs im not happy with what pioneer offer expessially when it comes to THD levels (1%). I have a mate that has a Yamaha RX-V557 powering Wharfedale Diamond 9.5's. His sound alright however i think its his speakers as I think mine sound much clearer, strong and natural bass.

I have an oppertunity to upgrade to a Jamo AVR-693/793 or a Marantz 4500 Receiver. Im not sure which one i should go with. The jamo has great looks, good sound and an average amount of features. I know marantz are a good brand however the 4500 is low range and has very little features and im not prepared to pay the extra money for a 5500 as even there not that great in the way of features.

My dream receiver would have to be a Denon 4306 but im 16 i doubt if i will be able to afford one in the near future. I have been offered one over ebay however the deal seams dodgy as it is through Western Union and out of ebay transaction.....back to the point

I am wondering if it is worth the upgrade to a Jamo AVR-693 or the Marantz if so which one is the best bet?

Thanks for all your help.

Whats your budget? Stay away from the ebay offer, sounds fishy.

My budget is around 600-800AUD. Keep in mind both the marantz and Jamo are Factory Repacks.
Marantz 4500 = $676AUD
Jamo AVR-693 = Approx. $650AUD

Also if possible anywhere that ships Denon Factory Repacks would be great, a price on a Denon AVR-2806/7 or the AVR-3805(little expensive). to Australia would be good. Please keep in mind the most i would like to spend is $700AUD (Approx $510US) including shipping. Thank-You.

Refurbished Yamaha.

You can get a refurbished Yamaha RX-V2500 for less then $500 on ubid. It has much more power and features than your friends model.

Stay away from ebay sellers that use Western Union! They can't solicit those kinds of sellers because they're not using eBay's PayPal stuff, and can't cover any loss of funds.

If you want a bargain, go with a Yamaha RX-V2500 (or 2600 if you need HDMI and video stuff) and use it as a pre-processor, then use it with an external amplifier. That way you can upgrade your amplification and speakers later, without investing in a new receiver.

2500 runs around $500 street, $800-1000 mainstream.

2600 can't be had for less than 800, I'm thinking, but it would be worth it for future investments in equipment.

Thank-You.
However im not sure if i want to go with a yamaha. Although the amp is THX and does have quite nice THD Levels. I still am in the market for a Denon AVR-3805 Factory Repack. Can i get this for around 500-600US?

Thank-You.

Refurbished Denon

Keep an eye on ubid and ecost for a refurbished Denon. I also beleive that ecost is an authorized dealer, but the refurb warranty is only 90 days.
For some reason the Denon's tend to cost more then the comparable refurbished Yamaha RX-V2500.
