Should i still go with the Oppo?

If i dont care about the SACD and DVD-Audio anymore?

I really am only interested in great upscaling of standard dvd's and playing blu ray dvd's.
Ill be connecting Through my Denon 2310ci via HDMI

At first i was all up for the Oppo 83 but then i thought about it more and really do not care about the audio portion.

I might wait for the new Panasonics, but there's nothing wrong with them PQ wise, and my BD-60 does a pretty good job at upscaling as well. It isn't quite as good as the Oppo, but it is good enough to make DVD look better.

I would go ahead and buy the current one though. Since I bought mine last year when they first came out I have not seen a comparible model as far as video reproduction, how fast the Blu-Ray will spin up, and having Master HD sound etc. They have excellent support, I have not had any quality issues, and they are the best in any price range from $50-$1000

They have already announced the BDP-80. It went on sale this week. I've got a review that I wrote while helping to beta test it.

If you also don't care about the multi channel analog out but do care about streaming then consider the PS3, otherwise the Pana BD60 or Sony S360. If you don't mind the slower response and don't care for streaming then the Pio BDP-320 reportedly can upscale almost as good as the Oppo, most likely better than the 2310.

Meh, I don't really see the reason to spend an extra $350 for a little better upscaling. I've been very satisfied with my PS3's upscaling, and the Panasonics get good marks as well for upscaling DVDs. If SACD and DVD-Audio aren't a concern, as the OP pointed out that they were not, I wouldn't advise drop that amount of coin on a player.

The Panasonic boot/read times aren't too bad either.

I did go with the Oppo-83 and am very happy with it. I love the upscaling and my regular DVDs have never looked so good. I popped in a DVD the boss and I hadn't watched in probably 2 years. It made me want to sit and watch all the movies over again just for the upscaling.

But to be serious, if you don't want to drop the serious coin, then there are several very good options out there already mentioned.

If I hadn't gotten the Oppo-83, then I was probably going to get the Pannie -80 due to the analog audio out. But since you said connecting via HDMI, then the Panni-60 would be fine for you and the sale prices are really low.

If you would like to do gaming plus the blue-ray, then take a serious look at the PS3.

I was deciding between the oppo or panni and was pretty much sold onthe oppo but then i was like for the extra money i dont care about the audio part so why spend it. Even at $289 the oppo 80 is still more than most players and if im going oppo why not go for the 83 at that point!

Since you don't care about the audio part and you have the xbox for streaming, the $123 DMPBD60 is the logical choice. I agree the Oppo80 at $289 does not make sense either because you can get the Pioneer BDP-320 for $229 for the same or better upscaling capability or like you say at that price point you may as well get the 83. The Oppo80/83 really only make sense to those who don't need SACD/DVDA if speedy response and the marginally better upscaling is a must for them.

Aside from the oppo, the Toshiba XD-E500 offers a great picture quality if you are using an hdtv. You can also control the color, sharpness and contrast.

We're talking DVD, right? The BDP-80 doesn't have the BDP-83's ABT2010 video processor, so it isn't as good as the BDP-83. It is still good, but it's not the equal of the -83.

Speaking of the ABT2010 is the Anchor Bay VRS ABT-2010 in my denon 2310 the same as the one in the oppo 83? Would i be able to let me receiver do the upscaling instead? Or is that a no no!

If your receiver has the ABT2010, then it's the same chip as the BDP-83. The firmware implementation may not be exactly the same, so you wouldn't necessarily have all the same controls, but the hardware is the same. And this is why the BDP-80 (as well as the BDP-83) has its "source direct" mode: so it can be paired with a good video processor somewhere farther down the component chain.
