Should I go for the 8" Audio Pro Sub for $150?

Hello All,

I recently got the spring clearance catalog from Audio Advisor and they are selling this Audio Pro Evidence MK 2 Sub with an 8" woofer and a 150 watt amp for $149.99.

I don't know much about subs, but at this price it seems a better built sub and an overall better deal than a comparable 8" 50 Watt Dayton offering (at least it looks better anyway). What do you think?

I'm currently running a pair of Behringer 2031P's that also have 8" woofers and I'm questioning whether I really need a sub at all. I know subs are a different breed of animal altogether, but would a sub like this make that much of a difference in my system?

My Marantz receiver has one single ended subwoofer input, but the Audio Pro Sub has 2 line level outputs. Do I need to get some kind of adapter to make this work?

Also, if I wanted to get a pair of these subs, but I only have one subwoofer input, how do I make that work? And do I even really need two subs? I don't listen to much newer bass heavy music, and I've heard that most music doesn't really have true stereo bass anyway.

Sorry about all the questions, but I've never ran a subwoofer in the house before.

I've never heard either but in your shoes I'd be tempted to go with a Dayton SUB-120 just based on the number of members on tight budgets that rave about them.

It depends on what you listen to but I use subs in every room with speakers.

Most of the time you would just use 1 of the sub's inputs however a very few subs will not wake up when using only one input. For those you just split the connection with a $3 Y-connector.

Y-connectors can be used to run two subs. You'll want a Radio Shack SPL meter to balance the outputs.

Thanks, but I think I want to go with a smaller 8" sub. It would physically fit in with my system better, besides the fact that I have a smaller room. I know that many here rave about Dayton subs, but I've also seen a lot of so-so reviews on them, and it seems that nobody truly enjoys them unless they are heavily modified, to the point were the Dayton becomes an entirely different sub altogether!

Might as well just save the money and buy a good sub with nice aesthetics that you don't need to do anything to.

If the sub has two regular line level inputs, does this mean I can just use one of the pair of auxiliary line level outputs on the receiver or do I have to use to dedicated subwoofer output?

[/QUOTE]Thanks for the info. Do you think having two subs is even necessary? I don't listen to much bass heavy modern music or movie soundtracks.
