What about Phase? What should that be set at, or does that depend on your eoom and size etc
Phase should be set by ear; play some music with the phase in one position, than repeat with the same music with the phase in the other position, whichever setting makes the bass sound better (or louder) is where it should be set. If changing the setting doesn't affect sound quality, set the phase wherever you like. :p

It does depend on your room. To find the optimum position of the dial, you can use test tones that span the frequency response of your sub, and a SPL meter.

Is there a disc that would test the frequency range. For example would that be on some thing like dvd essential, or something like that?

I know about DVD-A, but consider this. Sony likes their proprietary stuff, and have never been much to support other stuff besides what they need or what is their own. Plus, one of the multichannel inputs is for 6.1, what's up with that? It should have been preouts, IMO, it's a waste.:(
Yep, a total waste, Sony just stuck that feature in there. Sometimes they do that, cram as many features in there to try to sell it, regardless of if it's actually useable in a real-world setting. "Hey, if it looks good on paper, we'll sell more." That's Sony's logic. :(
