Ok i have a rescue pair of event electronic 20/20 studio monitors, each has a 8" wide range woofer and 1" titanium tweeters which i replaced , but the woofers are tired and worn out,had too reglue surround on one,a partial seperation problem!
They were found on the street with old sofas and stuff!
They have a bass tube thats really effective and does bass well!
Pioneer makes a wide range 8" woofer that reviewers loved on parts express!
So fork over $88.00 for the spkrs, and have a pair i dont need at all.
I ask around, but no one i know is interested really!
Monitors need paint ,but real solid cabinets are 2.5"-3" bigger all way around compared to beta 20s
Im guessing the x/over should be ok with this widerange woofer also!
These big book shelf spkrs would rock a 1/2 dorm floor i swear!!!!!
They would be 50watt rms after i replace the woofers!
I just dont need them at all, except a patio zone maybe!
Im looking at speaker death, and its not bose so what should i do!!!
This is gonna hurt for awhile!!

You can't substitute a different woofer and expect the speaker to work properly. The T/S parameters of drivers are unique.

If you want to salvage the speakers you have to rebuilt the woofers you have. If it is a foam surround, then get a refoaming kit.

there may be no good solution

If you heard the bass comming out bloated and it got booming at 40watts you may be like jes these paper woofers are worn out!
The woofer that didnt need gluing sounds the same!
Well that being said, and a little thought ive come to belive any decent wide range woofer may improve the sound quite abit!
The t/s parameters you mention being unique to this driver dont seem too apply to these set of gramps,!
A kid was putting balls in the ports too mute the boom alittle,i found the little guys solution to the bass problem when i replaced the tweeters!
Funny but he may have been on to something!
Maybe i can do better, but would replacing those drivers and a more mature port tuning get tighter bass make a decent lg pair of bookends out of bose sounding mud mixers, thats the question really!
