Should I be able to sleep well with this setup?

I am VERY new to all of this as I am tired of my $30 speakers. So I decided it was time to go out and get some new stuff. I also have 2 small children that I need to take into account here.

My room is 20'x26' an 8' ceiling, sheetrock walls, and carpet. I am listening to 95/5 to movies/music ratio. I wanted to spend under $5k and this is what I bought:

B&W 602S3 fronts
B&W LCR600 S3 center
B&W MT1 rears
SVS 20-39 PCi Sub
Rotel RSX-1056 reciever
Rotel RDV-1050 DVD player

I am having second thoughts about the reciever and the DVD players.

You should sleep very well. Any specific second thoughts other than normal buyer remorse? Those are all very good HT components, my advice is relax and enjoy

I'll double the shipping! :p

Seriously though, You have pick out a great system. You should have no worries at all. I know you said you listen to 95% HT but I have a feeling you will start enjoying your CD collection (if you have one) all over again. Compared to what you had (I'm guessing here) it will be a night and day difference. Those same old boring CDs will come to life now.

Enjoy!

The only thing to lose sleep over...

...is the fact that the Rotel components have a limited distributorship. Without any competition and usually available only through higher-end dealers or A/V specialists and contractors, that means you probably paid too much. The B&W likewise to some degree, but if you like the way things sound, that's all that counts. Hopefully, customer service(if needed) will be of a higher caliber from such a retailer.

Ya, the customer service is worth several hundred dollars to me, and I am getting excellent service here. The salesman (a self proclaimed audio-hobbyist not audiophile) is going to come to my house and help my limited understanding with both setting it up properly and how to install, all free of charge. Also my wife wants all silver components so I am slightly limited here.

I paid $1299 for the reciever and $599 for the DVD. And after seeing the Marantz at ubid for half that price, it makes me wonder.

The only other question I have is that that sub is fricking HUGE (and I know this is all personal preference and that each brand has its devoted) but would I be better of with the Outlaw for this system? Is the SVS an overkill?

And thank you all for responding so quickly and with enthusiasm as it already makes me feel better.

In designing many ported subwoofer systems for home and car, I can tell you size is a good thing, if you have the space. With a large room like you have the SVS is a good choice. The smaller a ported subwoofer system gets, (in some cases) the more comprimises that are made. I.E. tuning frequency, port length/diameter, port displacement

Did I bad-mouth the equipment?

Can't handle the truth?

The man asked a question, and I gave him MY answer. Problem?

You should loose a ton of sleep.

...but you should loose it playing with your awesome new home theater set up. Congrats, I think you have some real stand outs as products. Don't let buyer's remorse get to you. I have a feeling everything you have sounds incredible, and I think that for under 5k you've got a system with both snob appeal and performance appeal. You could ask 100 people on this site how to spend that $5000, and you'd get 120 suggestions. What really matters is that it sounds good to you then you've won, and I don't think the setup you have would sound bad to many. If anyone questions you about your purchase you can always point to the fine European heritage of your speakers, then crank out the tunes or a movie to showcase your amp. Congrats again, nice set up all the way around.

Post-sale service is the key...I too prefer brushed aluminum and Rotel is one of the few that offer it...the Marantz is basic black. Coupla' things re: the latter: is it a current model? Are they authorized distributors and is it covered by the Marantz warranty? That must be taken into consideration. I'm much more attuned to face-to-face purchasing for any number of reasons.

Apparently, there are some who've seen my initial response as some sort of "cheap shot" when it wasn't. No offense intended; I simply object to the premise of higher-end pricing. I too wound up paying top dollar for my recent purchases, due to the gear I chose. Few folks sell what I wanted, so I bit the bullet...luckily it worked out OK. A few weeks after purchase, one of the units started to act up...I brought it back and after a meeting of the minds with my salesman and then some minor "reasoning" with the store manager, walked out with a brand new replacement. Wasn't as smooth as I hoped for, but it was resolved to my satisfaction.

Insofar as a sub is concerned, I have no experience with them. My vintage units provide all the bottom I require for simple, stereo playback.

jimHJJ(...good luck and good listening...)

The 12" Outlaw box sub is about the same size as the SVS 12" box sub, which is about the same size as the Hsu 12" Box sub. At that performnace point, thats the size you get.
