Sherwood Newcastle Pre 965

Hello all.
I just bought a Sherwood Newcastle P-965. All I have done with it so far is to set up my subwoofers. I just came across a killer deal on an amp/pre combo and so I am selling my Sherwood. I haven't even sent in the warranty card yet, but I don't think the warranty would be transferable. I think you have to have been the original owner who bought from an authorized dealer. You should call Sherwood, or just take this as a new unit with no warranty.
Asking Price: $950.00 plus shipping. Make offer. Will ship in original box with all paperwork and remote.

Not in the market, but what were your impressions of the unit?

I had been using a Denon 3801 for a combo. I have a Behringer EP2500 for my subs. I tried the Behringer with the Denon. It was better, but not by a landslide. When I setup the Sherwood with the Behringer, it was a whole new world. Could hear many things I had never heard on CD before. Some things were a tad bright, but I think it was just that the Sherwood was passing through the true nature of the recording. If I had walked into a room blindfolded and you had stuck me on the couch and played Bob Seagers "Turn the Page", I would have sworn he was on a stage in front of me. I could hear him breathing on the mic, hear the crowd in the room, everything very detailed and clear. My wife was equally impressed. I am so glad I upgraded from a receiver to a pre. 100% difference in quality. Hope it helps.

Thanx, just curious. I'd heard good things about the Sherwood and thought it would be a good option for a budget separates system.

sherwood rocks

Which combo did you end up getting. I have the sherwood R965 and love it, I also get excellent $$$ on it.

I am using the Sherwood P-965 with an Atlantic Tech. 2000 7 channel amp. It sounds amazing. I hooked up the A. Tech pre, and I couldn't tell a difference in sound between the AT and the Sherwood. The Sherwood seems a little more difficult to use, while the AT had a lot of my most used setup features rights on the front. It was very easy to adjust treble/bass, and channel volume right from processor. With Sherwood, it seems a little trickier. Truth be told I would almost rather keep the AT because I spent less on it and it seems to perform every bit as good as the Sherwood, but I have to sell one of them. Both made my Denon sound very inferior.

The Sherwood Newcastle line may be had for relatively low money but that is the only factor that would justify it being "budget." Very fine product build and sound quality. Check website and look at quality chips used(Motorola). Better the speakers the better it struts it's stuff. This product has to be mated with higher quality products to be fully appreciated. The pre/pro lists like $1500 alone. Sure that's not Krell pricing but then again who says higher the price the better the sound? Nonsense. I own the BA version and love it. Not quite as easy to use/navigate as other units but hey, it makes me feel like my college education enabled me to be able to work through these little complications.

I agree with the comments regarding the Sherwood R965. Quality speakers are a must, biu they are with most higher quality systems.
I have really enjoyed mine, I recently picked up their dvd player which "plays nice" with the receiver as it should!!!
I am preparing to set-up the room 2 connections and am looking very forawrd to it. Has any one done this? I would like to hear how it came out.
Thanks.
