I have a sharp sound bar HT-SB600
I have had it for over a year and it's been great. I have a media server set up that runs thru my ps3. A few days ago when I played videos with DTS. I got static. The sound bar still works for non dts audio. Bit anything with dts gives static. I tried plugging into the other HDMI inputs. I tried using a toslink cable. Always static. I have not changed any settings in a long time. Audio works fine in all of my other rooms with other systems. It's not the ps3. Can someone explain what may have caused this or how to fix it?

This is strange.

I have downloaded the manual and I note no firmware updates for that sound bar.

I just wonder if there has been an update to your ps3 lately and its firmware is now incompatible with your sound bar. Do you have a BD player? If you do try an older disc and see if the sound bar decodes it. If it does, then you are stuck as your firmware in the bar is not able to be updated.

It seems to me the firmware for that DTS codec has got corrupted or the processor is failing and not able to handle the more complex DTS codec system.

I would definitely try a reset to defaults and then redo the set up. This will reboot everything and stands a good chance of solving a problem like this.

This is how you reset: -

Make sure to disconnect all output and input cables
attached to the unit before performing the factory reset.
1. Press the ON/STAND-BY button to enter the power
stand-by mode.
2. While pressing the EQ button, press and hold the
ON/STAND-BY button until “RESET” appears.
Caution:
This operation will erase all data stored in memory
including clock, timer settings and tuner preset.

If this fails, then I don't think the problem is correctable. For a unit of that price repair will not be cost effective.

My only other comment is that, that unit offers a lot for the price and therein likely is the root cause of the problem. A unit of that price offering that much facility will more often than not have a very short life. Its the old adage, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.
