The link doesn't take me to the product... if this is the one I think it is, my parents just got this tv, and from Dell too actually. It has an amazing picture, I would love to own one, and that is a great price too.

Huh?

I have plasma and I love it, but this deal is for LCD TV
I know, it is precisely LCD and that's why it's not a deal, even at that price.

You can get a 50" Panasonic plasma for the same money. On a good day, the G10. On a very good day, at least for me, G15 with money in the pocket, but I know people . . .

I think Sharp has made the worst looking displays I have ever seen, at least in the 1080p world. I personally think that Vizio plasmas of old outperform them by a mile.

Then, well, Sharp is a company that was recently nailed for price fixing their LCD panels! Sheesh.

I would agree that I don't like Sharp's TV's at all....I will leave the LCD vs Plasma comments out as I have both and each have their strong points.

But if your happy with Sharp then this is a good deal.....:)

This post wasn't about which one is better technology - CRT, LCD, Plasma, Oled or Mirasol,
But for specific item which now cost less money than before.

LCD don't burn-in, have much lighter weight, typically have longer lifespans, smaller power usage etc...
LCD's have worse contrast ratios, slower response time, worse viewing angles and unless it's IPS panel, smaller color range...
It's not my place to shove ether into anyone's throat but educate and let people do their own choices...

If you posted Bose in this subforum for the same price as Ascend, I'd chime in a similar fashion.

The typically longer lifespan on LCD is baloney. Power consumption becomes nearly a moot point if the displays are calibrated. Calibrating the typicaly LCD panel doesn't save energy as the backlight is always on.

As for weight, I don't know, I guess it never crossed my mind ever as a criteria for choosing a $1,000 display.

I've never seen burn-in ever with a plasma, though I hear it used to happen many years ago. There is a local sports brewery near me, where my friends did the entire AV install. There are double digit plasmas in there, that play all day long, for many years now. They still look great.
