shadow detail with Visio M65-C1

I just bought this TV last weekend, and overall it's fabulous. However, I'm having trouble getting both good blacks and shadow detail. If I lighten things up enough to see detail in the shadows, the black level is rather grey. It's still better than with the ten year old 50" Sony rear projection it replaced, but not as good as I'd hoped.

What to do?

calibrate it and if doesn't help - a) get used to it or b) return and get a different TV. I got plasma TV specifically for that and fluid image motion
