Sexy speaker cables

After seeing some of the very sexy looking cables that some of the guys on here have made, I decided to spruce up my own.

I originally wanted to buy some of Emotiva's X-Series speaker cable. Very sexy. But they're a bit pricey and only come in 3 meter increments. I just needed short 3-4 foot runs. But Emotiva sells a speaker cable termination kit that you can use to make something similar. And since I had $100 in Emo-cash to spend I decided why not upgrade my cables for free?

So here's what I started with. This is just bulk 12 gauge cable from Monoprice with Radio Shack banana plugs. Nothing fancy, but it got the job done.

So here is the kit I bought from Emotiva. It comes with everything you need other than Tech Flex, which I bought from Parts Express.

I decided to cut the colored tubes and shrink wrap in half because I didn't need my cables to be that long. So after running the speaker cable through the Tech Flex, attaching the tubes and banana plugs at each end and heating the heat shrink with a BBQ lighter, this is what I ended up with.

Not too shabby if I do say so myself. I asked my wife what she thought of my sexy new cables and she just rolled her eyes. Women.

Pretty snazzy looking! I did some of my speaker wires a little while back, but I don't use them anymore because they're too short. When I move in a few months I'll see how exposed the cables will be, and I'll determine if I have to pretty them up :D

And what size techflex did you get?

I can't be the only one who came into this thread expecting speaker cables covered in lace/lingerie

I use ixos gamma geometry. I don't have an attic, so this stuff has to be exposed. I ran it along the back side of an exposed beam. Stuff looks pretty nice. My wire is silver and gray, this pic is of white and gray.

Here is the silver:

I used the 3/8" Tech Flex.

I had bought the Tech Flex from Parts Express a couple of weeks ago, but as of a few days ago, the tracking information only showed that it had arrived in Lenexa, KS on December 18th. They couldn't give me any more information so I bought a bunch of calbe kits that had Tech Flex from Monoprice and did the overnight shipping because it's cheap. Well wouldn't you know the package from Parts Express showed up that same day!!

I tried to cancel the order from Monoprice but they told me that the package was already on a pallet for shipping and couldn't be cancelled. They said to just refuse the package and that they would credit me when the got the package back. Well the overnight guy just dropped the package off at the door and didn't even ring the bell. So I was going to mail it back tomorrow. I happened to be painting one of my subs in the garage this morning and the overnight guy shows up again with another package from Monoprice!! I guess they sent me the same thing twice. But I refused the second package. We'll see how much of a fiasco trying to get credit is going to be.

Very well done. Little details like this really make the install look profesional.

Wonderful post! I think I'm going to have to do that when my setup is less temporary.

Wow thats a HUGE improvement to those standard cables of yours. They now look like a high-end set of $100+ Monster cables (and there alike).

Thanks for the tip! :)
