I thought I would steal Stratman's idea and start a thread on the seventies.

Dislikes:
1. Disco
2. Disco
3. Disco

Don't take me to a disco
you'll never even get me on the floor
Just take those records off the shelf
I'll sit and listen to them by myself
Today's music don't have the same soul
I like that old time rock n'roll.

Three of my favorites
1. Born to Run
2. Damn the Torpedoes
3. Night Moves

Might I add Pink Floyd, The Who, Derek and the Dominos, Yes, The Eagles, The Doors, The Allman Brothers, Lynrd Skynyrd, Styx, Deep Purple, Rush, Black Sabbath, the Police. There certainly was great music in the 70's, some bad also, and this has already been pointed out, but some terrible fashion. :D

Man the 70s! What was not to like musically in the 70s? Well besides disco. That was Steely Dan's hey day, some of the glam rock stuff Bowie, T-Rex, Roxy Music. Funk music: Slave, Parliament, The Brothers Johnson, Earth, Wind and Fire. Heart: Magicman, Barracuda, the softer stuff: Maria Muldaur's Midnight At The Oasis, Seals and Crofts': Summer Breeze, Spitfire and Red Octopuss by Jefferson Starship, Frank Zappa, Loggins and Messina, The Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, ELO, Kansas, Al Stewart's Year Of The Cat, The Doobie Brothers, America: Tin Man, Ventura Highway, Horse With No Name, Bob Welch: Sentimental Lady, The Eagles: Hotel California, One Of These Nights, The real Guitar Player magazine (not the crap they have now), Carol King's: Jazzman, Wings: Jet, Junior's Farm, Band On The Run, Starbuck: Moonlight Feels Right, The Bay City Rollers (hey I was a kid), Bob Seeger: Night Moves, Steve Miller Band: Big Ol' Jet Airliner, Manfred Man's Earth Band: Blinded By The Light, Pablo Cruise: What Ya Gonna Do When She Says Goodbye? Love Will Find A Way, Ambrosia: Biggest Part Of Me, Exile: Kiss You All Over Orleans: You're Still The One, England Dan and John Ford Coley: I'd Really Love To See You Tonight, Rod Stewart: Hot Legs, earth shoes, 8-tracks, Pet Rocks. Ovation 12 Strings, Musician's Emporium catalogs.

These are some of my best memories of the 70s musically, I didn't even touch Jazz or hard rock, the post would be too long. Have A Nice Day!:)

P.S. Anybody that says that the music scene today is just as good as back then is full of hot gas.

Uh...Parliament and Brothers Johnson could easily be classified as Disco (yes I have many tracks by both).

Why is that everyone feels the need to say 'Disco sucks'? First of all genre classifications are arbitrary and ridiculous. Hell the Bee Gees are often classified as disco.

I happen to love that kind of music because I grew up with it as skating is something I've done since I was a kid. You'll find songs on 'disco' compilations nowadays that are in no way disco. Most of the time they get classified as 'old school' when in the day they were funk or freestyle. Let go of the stupid genere classifications and just accept that there is a lot of good music of all kinds.

I've said before that I think the '70s are second only to '80s as the best decasde for music ever (by a very small margin). So far what I see with the responses are Rock. Great...I love rock and have hundreds of CDs that fall into the '70s rock classification. The '70s were so much more than that as were the '80s and yet all you hear is Disco this, disco that...

Holy smokes...I'm takin' a trip down Senility Lane! I still have my Ovation, btw! :) (Kiss You All Over or Pablo Cruise's Ocean Breeze...both were certain to getcha 'some'! ;)). Nice list, S-man!! Howzabout a few more, like all the jam bands and arena rock groups such as the Outlaws, Kansas, Boston, Styx, Molly Hatchet, Marshall Tucker Band, Robin Trower, Poco, Little Feat, etc. Ahhh, long cuts on FM radio......;)

Yep, it was all good...'cept for that goofy disco crapola.

Despite being one of my favorite bands, Earth, Wind and Fire is pretty disco, too. I mean "Boogie Wonderland"?

MDS is right some bands were called disco when they really weren't, also everybody and their granny tried their hand at disco: KISS, ROD STEWART, THE ROLLING STONES, BRYAN ADAMS (though he's more 80's), I don't consider Queen's Another One Bites The Dust to be disco.
