You first need to decide if you want to use HDMI cables. If the plasma has an HDMI input and the cable box has and HDMI output, then all you need to do is connect the HDMI out from the cable box to the receiver and the HDMI out from the receiver to the plasma - then configure the receiver (see the manual - Onkyo manuals are well written and fairly easy to follow).

If the cable box doesn't support HDMI, you will have to use component video cables for the video and optical or coaxial cables for the digital audio. You could still use HDMI from the receiver to plasma because the 674 can upconvert component video to HDMI.

One question, do you want to have to fire up your full system on every time you watch TV? Personally I don't. Slightly different wiring depending which way you want to go.

It's pretty well explained here.

As you read, bear in mind for video you will using HDMI or component output directly from the cable box to the Hitachi, the receiver will not be involved in video. Also remember that you will connecting digital audio directly from the cable box to the receiver for those times when you want to have your audio system synced up with the TV. Remember to "mute" the TV speakers when you do this. It sounds horrible (at least to me) with both the TV speakers and the main system on at the same time.
