Setup Denon AVr 3808CI and Channnel Plus MDS 6A

I am pretty much a rookie at this and originally the system was not set up by me. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to hook up my Apple TV so I can hear it over my Channel Plus system. I hooked up my Apple TV using an HDMI cable to the Denon through the DVR HDMI port. I used RCA cables to hook up from the DVR out on the Denon to the open Channel plus channel. The apple TV works fine on the TV but no sound through the Channel plus. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My apologizes, if I have posted this in the wrong place.

What version of AppleTV do you have? If it is the older one with Analog (RCA) connections you will need to connect those to the receiver. The RCA outs on the Denon (either preamp or Zone 2/3) will only output analog connections and will not convert an HDMI input.

Ok. That has an optical output. You would need a converter to go from Toslink (optical) to analog. Monoprice sells one here: For only $20.02 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Digital Coax & Optical Toslink to R/L Stereo Audio Converter | Toslink Switch / Converter

The only downfall is you must leave you appletv on PCM as this will not pass dolby digital. If you are doing only music this is not a big deal.

Thank you for the info when you say PCM I will be still able to watch video through the hdmi connection correct.

PCM is the audio and should not effect the video. It will mean the appletv will have to downmix anything that is dolby digital to 2 channel PCM. I am not an Apple person so I would check the manual to make sure it will do this. I am fairly certain it will but I am not 100% sure.
